Sorry for your loss and sorry if I added stress.
I am the engineer type and question everything and take nothing at face value since a lot of people just repeat what someone else said or made up without verifying that it is true

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
But if that was the case why put the driver in and all and go to the expense of coding an interface to configure it. I dunno....ask ResMed. I am sure they have their reasons for doing anything. BUT the wifi that is available from any machine is NOT what is doing the transmitting to the ResMed MyAir...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
So what is the wifi actually used for then? I can't imagne they put the hardware in and didn't use it for anything So you can use your cell phone (or computer/tablet ...whatever you use to view the app) to view the MyAir or DreamMapper results that show up after the cellular modem transmits the dat...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
The wifi is so it can phone home so to speak and give usage data back to the Dr so they can see how your mother is doing and send settings changes back to the machine. I No...the machine doesn't use wifi to phone home to report data. It uses the cellular modem in the machine. WiFi is local...like s...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
With a new machine of that type you won't need to mess with the firmware. The wifi is so it can phone home so to speak and give usage data back to the Dr so they can see how your mother is doing and send settings changes back to the machine. It does more that any of the standard cpaps and it has a t...

If you have a laser thermometer you can aim it straight at the hose heating coil and get a pretty good reading.

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
Excellent, that is a couple of steps up from any of the general line of cpap machines.
I might think about an oxygen monitor over time. The cheap finger devices can be off by up to 5% and can cause mis-reads for things like cold hands and por circulation. It is absolutely not required.

Re: H20 Distillery
Our local water is 13 grains hard; and reverse osmosis water leaves a white powder. RO does not correct hard water. Our distiller is similar to the one posted by Zonker, but candy apple red. The bullfrog has to delime it very frequently to maintain efficiency. It still beats the heck out of buying ...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
Pretty much all masks are interchangeable unless it is for one of the small portables. Even there all that is needed is an adapter. Does your mother have a constant monitor for SpO2? If not you may want to consider an O2ring or similar device. It records her pulsox with a 2 second sample rate and 4 ...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
You mother is on a non-invasive ventilator which is what the ST means. The pressure of 22 is quite high and is beyond the more common machines. This machine will also detect missed breaths and force one if she doesn't on her own. The detection period is also a shorter window than the standard bileve...

Re: H20 Distillery
Personally I use a RO/DI (reverse osmosis deionized) filter because my water from the tap is liquid rock. I've used a home distiller like the one in the link. They consume a good bit of power and put out a whole lot of heat. A RO filter will cost more up front but consume a lot less power and over t...

Re: Elderly back sleeping mom, new ASV
As a person with complex apnea I can say that the machine they gave you will make things worse rather than better. The only thing that will effectively treat complex is an ASV.
