Re: Pod153’s Big Mild OSA/UARS Adventure

Hello again, Pod153 , When I started APAP (12 years ago), the machine didn't come with a humidifier. The air from the PR 551 felt cold and my throat was dry. I worried about it being a site for infection. When a clip-on humidifier became available from Philips Respironics, I bought one. But I never ...

Re: In the UK...Mild OSA/UARS, awful nasal congestion at baseline, don't know where to begin with masks

Hi Thumper1947 , Hi ozij , When I was working full time, my job took me to six of the 50 states. Sometimes repeatedly, so that I visited CA, FL, and NY several times. The shortest trip was three weeks. The longest trip was three months. I think that counts as 'having lived and worked in America. :) ...

Re: In the UK...Mild OSA/UARS, awful nasal congestion at baseline, don't know where to begin with masks

Hello again Pod153 , A couple of items to add to your useful info folder: :D 1. To the Q: where in the UK can I buy a machine if not directly from ResMed UK in Abingdon*? To keep themselves in good standing with the DoE, Intus Healthcare quite strenously suggest that you do their sleep study – to th...

Re: In the UK...Mild OSA/UARS, awful nasal congestion at baseline, don't know where to begin with masks

Hi Pod153 , I'm in the UK too, and I have moderate-to-severe sleep apnea (AHI 16-30). And I'm a retired medical journalist so I have some familiarity with navigating health options in the UK. Perhaps I can be of assistance. The NHS – with its 150 foundation trust hospitals, most with their sleep med...

Re: Stopping breathing while awake

The thing you describe – "tired of the effort" – suggests your asthma isn't under control. You don't say what age you are, but I'm guessing 60+. And I think your doctor should be seeing you about your asthma at least once a year. And he or she should be giving you an 8 x 11 sheet of paper called you...

Re: Stopping breathing while awake

Hi KittyMom 22 , There are two or three ways this can happen. One is being in 'reverie' – ie, a kind of momentary meditation or waking dream state. With most people, and esp those without meditation training, it doesn't last very long. My guess is, this is what you have. It's usually harmless. A sec...

Re: Worried about my dads recent death and apnea

Hi BlizzardUK , You may not know how UK doctors are taught to think, and make decisions. First, almost every foundation trust hospital has an ethics committee, and doctors regularly have to attend its seminars. Second, when the question of giving treatment comes up – as it did with the discovery of ...

Might be postural apnea (in addition to the previous apnea). Try a neck brace.

Re: Hey guys

Hello again, I assume by 'check my card' you mean 'took the SD card out of my machine and inserted it in their computer'. If your numbers are as you say – in the 2s – then the SMD staff won't change your settings. 'Under 5' has slowly become the standard that UK sleep medicine departments work to. A...

Re: Hey guys

Hi Juggsy75 , I looked up your previous posts on this forum, and it seems the PR System One you were given came from the sleep medicine department in one of the UK's National Health Service hospitals. And now 'they' have given you a replacement. Is this the same 'they''? Or have you been buying your...

Re: Allergy to Velcro in my mask

Hi diane , Since it is difficult to avoid Velco, we might consider if you can change your response to it. There is an American psychologist called Robert Dilts who has been saying for 40 years now that an allergy is a learned response. And since it is learned, it can be unlearned – via a method whic...

Re: Pressure Increases w/o Events

Hi Steptoe , I can't speak for the Dreamstation 2, but the algorithms of earlier PR machines – such as my 961 – are such that, even when 'nothing is going on', every so often the machine ups the pressure by 1.5 cm – just to see if that makes any difference. And if it doesn't, the algorithms bring th...

Re: Forgot piece - duct tape tips?

Hi supersavernc , I'm in the UK. I live here. :) I can't give you an opinion on the use of Duct tape – it might close off the safety provision. But I can give you the following: information. You can contact Philips Respironics UK – and speak to a person – on 0800 130 0845 . Their business hours are ...
