Respironics BiPap Plus M series machine

Post by PFletch » Sat Apr 13, 2024 2:20 pm

I’ve been using this same machine every night since 2007. I have severe sleep apnea. This machine has worked great for me but it is very old and I would like to get a new one before this one leaves me stranded one night. My primary doctor wants me to get a new sleep study done. I don’t want to have to pay for a new patient Dr appt and a new sleep study. I’m so frustrated. I do not feel like I need that because I never snore, unless I fall asleep watching tv in the living room. I wear my bipap faithfully and I am never sleepy during the day like I was before I got diagnosed. My oxygen levels are always great. So my question is, where can I find another gently used bipap machine that hasn’t had a recall on it?

do you still have your original prescription? does it have an expiration date on it? if so and it doesn't have an expiry, try these guys-

if you need a new 'scrip, did you know ANY doctor can write one? maybe you can talk to your dentist and see if they will write one for you without having to go through another sleep study.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

See if you can get your doctor to prescribe a *titration*, not a 'sleep study'... you know you're OSA, going in for a sleep study now would be torture... I know, I did... popped a big old rant here afterward after 'failing'. Pressures change as we age and gain/lose weight... having a tech tweak on you is a good thing. Laying in bed under torture without PAP is cruel and unusual punishment. The only reason to have another bare-knuckle sleep study is if you're trying to get off the hose... had an operation, lost 60lbs, that kind of thing. If they make you do this then demand two Ambien at least and warn the tech you may need resuscitation! You have to go below 70% O2 before they'll discontinue... either that, or you have to actually *sleep without PAP* for long enough for them to clinically diagnose OSA and give you an AHI. My original AHI was 104... the 'failed' study told me I showed a 27! The doctor said this was good, at least I had a diagnosis. Thanks doc.

I'm finding good machines on Craigslist here in Austin TX. Most of these sit for weeks... I know of an Aircurve 10 available for <400USD. Don't get an 11, the 10 is the good one, the workhorse. No scrip needed to buy off CL... if they can show the machine has <5000hours that's good... they run for 22,000+ hours motor life, new motors are 130$ on Amazon. You're not in Central Texas by any means are you?

Send your prescription to one of the big online houses... I sent mine to cpap dot com (a sponsor here) over a decade ago... when I asked they told me they still had it and they'd honor it *forever*. Many of these companies offer a cheap or free consultation where they can write you a prescription if you demonstrate symptoms etc... you may get to bypass the system entirely.

The office where I purchased my machine is out of business now so unless I can get a copy of my original prescription from the doctors office who wrote it I’m out of luck there. But, you have given me lots of ideas to work from, and I really appreciate it! I live in Georgia but actually will be in north Austin soon for the birth of our first grandchild! So, I will check the listings while there.
Here is part of my report:”She slept in a supine position only 7% of the night. While sleeping, there were 65 apneas and 564 hypopneas, all obstructive, for an Apnea-Hypopnea Index of 93 (normal 0-5). Her AHI supine was 125 versus 92 on her side. The lowest 02 saturation was 51%, her longest event was a 57-second hypopnea, and she spent 47% of the night with an 02 saturation below 90%.”
Thank you so much for your input!
