Storing Cpap Machine
I tested the airsense 10 to make sure it worked as my backup. Is it safe to store for a few years? I cleaned it all out but is there any chance germs could have settled from one time use?
Re: Storing Cpap Machine
Wipe it down, dust it off. Make sure that everything is completely dry and you'll be fine storing it.

I put my backups in their carrying bags and place them in the bottom of my closet. I also put a piece of paper in each one with the date I bought it and how long I used it. I have two airsense 10's. One is almost new and the other is several years older, so gives me an idea which is which.

Re: Storing Cpap Machine
That sounds like the AirSense 10 is a new machine. If so, you should use it for the entire warranty period. (ResMed's warranty for machines is two years.) If you don't do this, the warranty is of no value to you.jlsmithseven wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:09 amI tested the airsense 10 to make sure it worked as my backup. Keep the out-of-warranty machine as the backup. It's a good idea to use a backup machine once per quarter to make sure it still works.
Re: Storing Cpap Machine
When my cpaps are not in use I like to place a cover over the hose connection to be sure unknown critters don't enter. That includes my travel cpap.

Re: Storing Cpap Machine
I used to keep my backup in my car trunk in its case most of the year. We've had to evacuate from wildfires twice beginning in 2017 when wildfires took 4000 homes in my town in one night. Fortunately, we had time before we had to evacuate each time. Some people had as little as 5 minutes warning and had to literally run for their lives.
But the problem is that the height of fire season is also the height of daytime temperatures--sometimes (thankfully it's rare) exceeding 110 degrees F and I don't think it's great to have my machine exposed to such high temperatures--worried it will degrade some of the components of the hose, mask, or internal workings of the device, as it may be even hotter in the car. Also, when it gets below freezing, I'm not sure if that will be a problem too.
I now have a wheeled box that is my emergency evacuation box. It has photo albums, important documents, a small battery "generator" that will run my CPAP for 1 night on a charge, and extra medications too, and it's right inside the front door, in hopes that I will have time to get it and my family and two dogs out of the house and into cars if necessary. This is earthquake country, too.

Re: Storing Cpap Machine
I just got a new Airsense 10 Auto, and the case is a little different than the old one (it's darker in color, and there's a bigger interior velcro flap over the machine and humidifier. The old one is my backup, the new one is the one I use. I would hate to lose the new one, but it doesn't make sense to keep using the old one while there's still some life in it. I was tempted just to use the old cord with the new machine, but I want a complete backup for whatever.Sheriff Buford wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:54 amI put my backups in their carrying bags and place them in the bottom of my closet. And this is a good reminder to me to tell my husband where to find the backup machine in case I'm ever hospitalized and he needs to bring it to me. I worry he'll miss a piece if he tries to take apart my regular set up.
