13 years on Cpap - weird machine issues

Post by SuiSuss » Wed Apr 10, 2024 5:19 pm

Hi All,

I have been on cpap since about 2013. Over that time I have had two resmed S10 autos which did the job well with no problems - ahi levels almost always under 3. Good times.

In early january, however, even though the machines were showing all is OK, I was having extreme difficulty with sleep and was waking up feeling rekked. I tried my second S10 auto with the same effect. As both machines we getting long in the tooth, I figured my old machines are probably getting tired or something and I sprung for a lowenstein Prisma 20a. Immediately back to awesome sleep. Happy days.

Now this is here it gets weird. This prompted me to get another sleep study done, which I had done last night - and yep, they were using the S10 machines. It wasn't until about 2am I managed to get to sleep and it had the same effect that my own S10s had on me recently. The sleep tech looked at the data from the sleep test as well as the years of data from my S10s and the new lowenstein and couldn't identify anything wrong or different.

It's almost as though my body has started to become a brand snob or something. Has anyone ever experienced something like this or have any ideas as to what the heck is happening here?

What are your pressure(s)? Do you use EPR/Flex/SoftPAP relief? There are significant differences between manufacturer's handling of these features.

A home-made manometer is just a piece of clear tubing taped to a stick with some water in it... you can easily check your machine's calibrations over a range.
