Re: Six months for me!

Congrats on making it six months! This means you are probably a dedicated CPAP user and you will be inseparable from your machine for the rest of your life. Woohoo! I've made it over three years now. I missed about a week last May, but this was deliberate. I wanted to see how well I could function w...

14-Month Progress Report

I have been on CPAP for 14 months now, and thought I'd give a progress report, for any newbies who might be feeling discouraged with the results of their early stages of CPAP use. I have not missed a night of CPAP since I got my REMStar Auto on 9/1/06. The immediate benefits were small, but the long...

In that case you don't want to invest in any DME. Jim I thank you for all your responses. I guess goofproof's line was the best and most convincing. As I reflect on the whole DME/CPAP mess it occurs to me that most CPAP patients can handle their own treatment and equipment purchases without the hel...

Your experience with Lincare Healthcare?

I am considering investing in Lincare Healthcare (ticker symbol=LNCR), which is, among things, a DME provider of CPAP. Has anyone had any experiences with Lincare---positive or negative? I would not want to invest in them if they treat CPAP patients poorly.

Hey JimW, Thanks for the thread. So a bug up the nose DOES happen. And sure enough, it is getting to be cockroach season out here. As well as spider season, scorpion season, centipede season, and vinagaroon season. No more automatic startups for me. I'm going to keep blowing that hose out manually.

I have a pretty bad problem with aerophagia myself. The best prevention I've found is C-FLEX (available on Respironics machines. Resmed has something similar). I keep my C-FLEX set to the max, at 3. Also my machine is auto-titrating. A minimum pressure lower than my titrated pressure helps prevent a...

Creepy crawlers in the mask.

I've lived out in the country enough to know it's a wise idea to shake out my shoes before putting them on. I got to thinking something similar about my mask and hose. I clean the mask every morning, then let it sit out all day, connected to the hose. Suppose some creepy crawler creeps in there and ...

How well do heated humifiers treat the common cold?

It seems to me that my heated humidifier and heated hose have brought relief to a cold I’ve had for the past two weeks. When I’ve had a cold this long, it’s always a major cold, with the major classic symptoms of runny nose, congestion, cough, headache, etc. I’ve had these symptoms but they’ve only ...

I read a book called "The Promise of Sleep" by Dr. William Dement. He writes passionately about sleep apnea. But I wasn't convinced I had it until I recorded myself sleeping. I snored like a gargoyle. Got a sleep study which suggested severe sleep apnea. Been on CPAP about 6 months now, and I'm find...

Humidifier strategies

I'd like to share a few humidifier strategies I've been using, that have helped me quite a bit. I live in the Mojave desert, and need lots of humidification with my xPAP therapy. The most effective strategy I've employed is the purchase of the Aussie heated hose (available at http://www.sleepzone.co...

You can make it more likely to get a prescription for an APAP if you are having problems with aerophagia (swallowing air and getting bloated). Or if you are having problems handling your prescribed pressure. The APAP delivers lower pressure most of the time, thus reducing aerophagia. And less pressu...

I had a problem getting my M-Series APAP to autostart, and that is without a full face mask. Then the problem just went away mysteriously. Now it autostarts after just two or three breaths. But I think the thing I'm doing differently is that I'm breathing out hard into the mask with my first couple ...

GoofProof may have something there. I changed interfaces after my mask was leaking a lot. To my surprise, my humidifier began using a lot less water.
