Re: Sleep Apnea Screening for Truckers Stirs Debate
Stom, I never said you were making a political comment. I was referring to AASM. As far as your common sense statement - I've not seen data on it one way or another. I grant you that trucking accidents not a huge problem, but they do happen. Point being, in a fairly regulated industry, the burden is...

stom,
I'm not are arguing policies. I'm sure AASM has a (political) reason for their position. My point of view comes from common sense. I'm all about privacy, but some jobs preclude that.

Re: Sleep Apnea Screening for Truckers Stirs Debate
Stom, Given that some professional drivers have uncontrolled sleep apnea, and in general 18 wheeler accidents are catastrophic (especially, when smaller vehicles are involved). You make a reference to relative risk - treating SA would eliminate some of tha.t With the drug testing and other tests dri...

As always, you are correct. Dr was emphasizing pressure changes vs flow rate. I honed in on pressure in his response. You tha man

Re: Sleep Apnea Screening for Truckers Stirs Debate
Personally, I have no problem testing professional drivers. I'm sure methamphetamines (and other substances) are a bigger problem. Greatunclebill - not sure this rise to the level of governmental/industrial conspiracy. As a friend of mine said - "if you think the government can carry out a conspirac...

Re: Any ideas on what's going on
For those interested, I finally had my appt with the cardiologist today. I asked him how his thoracic physics was, and he said "moderate". He gave a great explanation of how he thought the saw tooth pattern is created - the heart twists when it beats causing it to make contact with various structure...

Re: More aggressive pursuit of the undiagnosed
In 2007, I went to my GP. In our conversation,I asked if sleep apnea was a possibility. She would not answer and asked me if I thought I had it (insurance reasons, I guess). I said something along the lines of "you're the doctor, you tell me" In short, no reply. Finally talked her into a sleep study...

"Read about the hazards of Naegleria fowleri in unsterilized water for nasal irrigation (a la Netti Pot®), that can cause the brain infection primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (naegleriasis) which carries a 95% risk of fatality." Sorry, but as a water quality guy, Naegleria fowleri is a bullshit a...

Re: anyone else not using their insurance for supplies?
A lot of us have high deductibles and buy supplies without insurance to save a ton of money. The prices they get for the same equipment through insurance is ridiculous. My insurance is kind of lame since they only negotiate the price down maybe like 10%. Thus I'm paying $300 some bucks for a $400 m...

Re: Bumpy waveforms?
Personxyx, I've got a similar, yet more obvious version of what you show on your charts. I have a Dr appt in late July and plan to ask. As Rick said, there doesn't appear to be any clinical significance to it. Please see the post referenced below for a bit more information. http://www.cpaptalk.com/v...

No idea. I guess I'll find out Tuesday. I read a couple of online articles saying don't do it yet. At least you can rollback to the previous version.

Re: Any ideas on what's going on
Jay, Thanks for the observations and opinions. I've been playing around and have noted the following: 1) PAP mode doesn't make any difference. Tried APAP at 14-17, CPAP at 14, CPAP at 16 - no difference I can see or feel. 2) breathing rate is 12 - 14 since I've been paying attention 3) without rope ...
