Re: Takin' It All Off!!

Chris 61, do you do a dental device with CPAP, or on its own? If on its own, have you had a sleep study with it? I'd love to know how effective that was for you. (and if it's a boil and bite or a custom-made one) Congratulations on your weight loss! That's awesome!

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

Thank you for your comforting replies. She is finally free after a lifetime of pain, starting with polio as a baby. It's good to realize that the BiPap may well have given her some help at the end, despite having to be restrained in order to remain on it. Her friend dreamt this morning that Giuliana...

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

I'm saddened to report that I just got news that my friend passed away about an hour ago. I only wish I'd been able to make her more comfortable, at least for a little while before she died. But she is free of everything now. Please think some good thoughts/say a nice prayer for my friend Giuliana A...

Re: Takin' It All Off!!

Yes! It's like stripping amnesia! I go to bed sure that I'll last the night, confident in how things are going, and I sometimes wake up a few hours later with the machine off, the mask on the floor, and no recollection of what happened. Weird! It's not happening as much lately (if things are going b...

Re: CPAP helps heart, right?

Sorry for not replying to a thread i started... Life got very busy all of a sudden, and I forgot I'd posted this until today, when I got back to cpaptalk.com and looked around! Engransan and Jerry, I hope you're both doing well and getting back to normal. That's scary stuff, but sounds like you're b...

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

Pekoepup, that was an excellent, very helpful description. It's just why I posted here, for this kind of insight. I wasn't sure if BiPap went above 20 or not. To think of those little babies with a pressure of 30 makes me realize the pressure may not be as horrendous as it sounds. (I had thought 20 ...

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

No, she definitely had no such study. Hmm, legal counsel. Her friend has the ability to decide to release her from all this torment, but I'm not sure she is ready to do this yet. As for legal counsel, I wonder if that would be pricey. My friend has no money or assets, and I'm quite tapped out. Maybe...

Thanks, Hawthorne. I wish I could do more for her.

If anyone has info on if this pressure (18 in, 8 out), I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

The resp therapist says it's BiPap, and when I expressed concern about the strong pressure, she didn't mitigate her replay with anything about it being variable. And sadly, it's not just for sleeping. It's all the time. She is starting to get sores on her face now from the FFM, and they're trying to...

Re: Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

She's not that old. Only 78, but she has had many physical problems her whole life, starting with polio...But before all this weight loss, she absolutely had all her faculties and then some. However, she signed a paper, as it turns out, stating that she wants life-saving measures. I just read it the...

Re: Unfortunate pregnancy update

Oh Bridget, I'm so sorry to hear this. I also lost a baby to an ectopic pregnancy. But keep up your hopes, because the doctor is right. You just need one good fallopian tube to make a baby happen. It worked for us, and we have a wonderful daughter. Just give it a little time. My thoughts are with yo...

Elderly woman restrained to Bipap. Pls advise!

I have an elderly friend from Italy, who has no family here, doesn't speak English well, and is in a hospital because she never recovered well from hip surgery nearly three months ago, losing so much weight she is nearly a skeleton. I can go into more detail about her case, but I want to get to the ...

Re: Being overweight and the use of CPAP

I have a BMI of 21 and exercise regularly, but a doctor who knows I have apnea mentioned the various things that can help make apnea better, including weight loss. I looked at him and said "well, that's probably not my problem," and he said "every little bit counts." I thought about trying to lose a...

CPAP helps heart, right?

Of course everyone knows OSA is bad for the cardiovascular system. But have there been good studies that show that CPAP therapy actually decreases heart problems or all the other health issues that go along with apnea? (Besides fatigue and accidents, of course.) I guess Snoredog's untimely death got...

Re: Why is the FFM so scary???

At first it looked like a gas mask to me. Scary! But nasal pillows and nasal comfort gels were giving me blowfish cheeks, and I hated that I couldn't even yawn without air rushing out of my mouth. I never knew how much I yawned and sighed (silently, like just deep breaths) before falling asleep unti...
