Re: Have you been treated for depression?

I've gone through spells where I've struggled with what I thought were depression and anxiety. I even went on prosac for awhile, which didn't really help. But in the 20/20 hindsight of a sleep apnea diagnosis, these were also periods of my life when my sleep schedule was totally out of whack and I w...

Re: no evidence saturated fat leads to heart disease

The point is that clinical researchers still can't agree on what is the "right" way to eat! It's almost as if different people need different diets...or maybe different researchers have different biases. For instance, Hernandez' study "Low-Carb Diet Could Raise Bad Cholesterol Levels" quoted above p...

Re: Newbie, gastric sufflation, setting pressure lower

Yeah APAP helped me. A pressure of 10 stops most events without blowing me up, but leaves me vulnerable to nasty apneas in my REM sleep. A pressure of 12 stops almost all events, but leaves me bloated and feeling horrible. An APAP of 10-12 leaves me averaging around 10.5 for the night, but jumps bri...

Re: Wow--My FFM seals better when not washed daily!

I never wash my face before bed. And I only wash my full-face-mask cushion every several weeks. When I first started treatment a year ago, I washed my face and cushion often. But I found that the silicone cushion stuck to my face and wrinkled. Now it sort of "slides" around my face without bunching ...

Re: Effects on blood pressure?

My baseline BP has been around 165/100 for most of my adult life. With occasional alarming spikes much higher. I hate taking drugs, so I let it run unchecked (except for a brief and unsuccessful case of lysinopril coughing side effect). CPAP took care of the spikes pretty well, and slowly started to...

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in

For sure those sausages should be delicious but does it makes any good to somebody who has high colesterol or triglycerides ? I had my bloodwork done 6 weeks after switching to a low carb diet. My cholesterol dropped 16% and my triglycerides dropped 33%. Excess carbohydrates can get turned into tri...

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in

Has anyone else noticed that most carbs have no flavour? When I was low carbing 11 years ago (before untreated sleep apnea dragged me back down), I made that observation about potatoes. Have you ever baked a potato, with zero fixins, and placed a big forkful in your mouth? Just hold it there and ch...

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in

Yeah, I try not to be too evangelical about low carbing. I always think of "Unbreakable" with Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson. If I'm on one end of the spectrum (where my body runs like crap on carbs and runs great on fatty acids), then there are likely people on the other end of the spectrum (who r...

Re: Anyone with Hypothyroid problems here?

My TSH is on the high side (4.39 when last checked). Got my new TSH number: 4.9 now. That blood was taken about 6 weeks into low carb dieting, losing ~30 pounds, and after ~11 months on APAP (as opposed to the 4.39 that was from over a year ago). So neither treating sleep apnea, reducing my triglyc...

Re: My boyfriend has apnea but refuses to treat with a machine

I've found that recording pulse oximeter is a good way to get someone to take things seriously. If they actually see that their heart rate is jumping around and that they are suffocating...it helps them make the transition from "this is a sleep problem I can live with" to "this is a breathing proble...

I have one, and have been using it...but I can't even tell if it ever worked. Should it be warm enough to feel that it is on, with your fingers?

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in

... Congrats, great progress! Have you seen your 90thcentile pressure drop yet? Took about 45#s loss for that to start for me but I still have a lot of wt to lose. I finally remembered to download my data and take a lok. I've been so focused on weightloss that I've ignored my APAP data. It looks li...

Re: Anyone with Hypothyroid problems here?

Oh crap! I have Fidelfs Syndrome! But seriously, I'm trying to untangle some of the same issues. And it's been driving me nuts wondering, which came first...the chicken or the egg. My TSH is on the high side (4.39 when last checked). Fasting glucose around 100. Serum vitamin D was "undetectable" at ...

Re: POLL Adjusting to Therapy

I didn't have any major deal breakers, but I needed to make the following three changes to get "comfortable". I had to move to an APAP. A pressure of 10 wasn't good enough to keep my AHI low all night, but a pressure of 12 all night had me belching air in the morning. APAP 10-12 was just right. I ne...
