Re: I am a nervous wreck
I have moderate hypoglycemia. I guess it is an age problem that I have to eat regular meals lately every 4-5 hours. My carbs are about 100 day, too high but working on that Hypoglycemia is a pretty clear sign of insulin resistance, and needing to eat regularly "every 4-5 hours" is a sign that you a...

Re: I am a nervous wreck
Have they ruled out other causes of your daytime sleepiness, such as narcolepsy? Have you looked at factors like your diet which may contribute to daytime sleepiness? Diets heavy in carbs can set you on a blood sugar roller coaster. If you have a surge of energy after eating then get predictably sle...

Re: Insurance Fraud? Airsense 10 and ROTECH.
You know, I am thinking about this. If the Supplier is having me sign a contract with them, then my Advantage plan DOES NOT HAVE A BINDING CONTRACT. You bring up an interesting point that I've NEVER understood. The actual contract you have with your insurer is called an Evidence of Coverage (EOC). ...

Re: Experience with Cigna and Travel CPAP
Cigna may not care which E0601 machine you get, but the DME might, as the Airsense Mini's are about 20 - 30% more expensive than the standard machine. Most insurers, by contract, pay an agreed-upon flat amount for ANY E0601 machine, and you are responsible for (usually) 20% of the agreed upon price....

Re: Insurance Fraud? Airsense 10 and ROTECH.
Advantage plans have the option of charging perpetual rental, you never own the machine. Here, for example, is how this is explained in the Kaiser Sr. Advantage Plan Evidence of coverage: In Original Medicare, people who rent certain types of DME own the equipment after paying copayments for the ite...

Re: I went to CPAP class!
Was your CPAP class with Kaiser? Are you on Senior Advantage? If so, you might want to check your Evidence of Coverage (you can find it online, it's the actual contract between you and your insurer). HMO's can charge a perpetual rental and Kaiser does. So you NEVER own your machine, and you have to ...

Schedule her for a sleep test!
Barring that, foam earplugs.
But seriously, schedule her for a sleep test. Drive her there. Take her out to a nice breakfast afterward. But make sure she gets one.

Re: Medicare requires repeated new split study? After 15 years of cpap use.
Yes, please do narc out the greedy doctor, who is apparently hoping for a big kickback, regardless of whether or not the patient survives the exam. NOT in Kaiser. Kaiser is capitated, which means they get the same amount from Medicare whether they provide a LOT of treatment, and testing or NONE. Th...

Re: Weight loss drug trial claiming to reduce Sleep Apnea. Hmmm?
Weight loss definitely works for some people in reducing or eliminating OSA. If it does, the trick is to maintain the weight loss long term. And those drugs have some nasty side effects, not sure how much has been studied truly long-term (20 - 30 years???). We are learning a lot of drugs we THOUGHT ...

Re: My resmed shuts down when it gets cold
That's 57 degrees in Farenheit. We turn our heat down to 55 degrees at night, and I've never had that issue. It gets that cold in our room sometimes. You might talk to your provider or to ResMed about this.

Re: Airsense 10 cutting in and out
I was having trouble like that and the plug is behind my bed. Sometimes the pillows fall in the gap between the wall and the bed (we don't have a headboard), and that was pushing the plug out of the outlet.
I relocated where I plug in the machine, and problem solved.

Re: I just became compliant. But have a question
Do I need to put the mask back on for the last couple hours of sleep if I wake up. If I can get back to sleep ? I guess what I am saying its easier to fall back to sleep without using the mask again if I only have an hour two max anyway. Yes. Put the mask back on. It needs to be on whenever you sle...

Re: CPAP lung/chest pain
I get esophageal spasms, and they cause a very sharp pain in my chest, all the way up and into my ears. I'm not sure how they test for it to rule it in or out (and wouldn't want to suffer the testing in any case), but if nothing else shows up, it might be worth asking about.

Re: Apria or Lincare
There's a reason we call them Crapria and Lin Don't Care, but it sounds like you have a "guy" at Lincare who actually talks to you and is helpful. That's worth something. You can try Crapria and see how it goes. You can always go back to your guy at Lincare for supplies if you are unhappy with the e...
