Re: Do I have CSA and not OSA? Sleepyhead data

archangle, these are the durations of the centrals. As you can see the longest was 28 secs. I haven't consulted Dr. Google as to how long is dangerously long, I'm afraid to jack up my anxiety again. All reassurances gratefully accepted. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o577/kaiasgram/Centrals.jpg

Re: Do I have CSA and not OSA? Sleepyhead data

Wow, that is an interesting experiment and I'm learning so much, thanks for the link. So I'm looking back at my own graphs from last night -- it's obvious when I was awake and struggling with those major leaks, around 5 a.m., and finally got up and put the medium pillows on the mask. What's surprisi...

Re: Exercises for Fatty Neck?

I also read on a chiropractor's website that you can exercise the soft palate by gargling -- I didn't bookmark the link or I'd send it to you. But when I read his article it kinda made sense. He talked about how long to gargle, and to "sing" gargle, i.e., gargle some melodies! Whether and how much t...

Re: Do I have CSA and not OSA? Sleepyhead data

Hi Pugsy, I did get up once or twice, once was to switch out my size small nasal pillows to size medium because I lost the seal on the smalls and couldn't get it back. The mediums worked better. I think that's when I started into my longest unbroken stretch of sleep (fitful and fragmented, no doubt,...

Oops, I duplicated one image and left out another. Here's the one I left out in my previous post of last night's data:

Re: Do I have CSA and not OSA? Sleepyhead data

OK, here are the screenshots, apologies if out of order. I'll eventually get better at this stuff! I appreciate your help and your patience with me and my flaming anxiety. I think because I still feel like holy h _ _ _ I keep thinking there must be something wrong with the diagnosis, with the equipm...

Re: Help, blackish residue in mouth after first use

chunkyfrog, you made me think of something -- I was also using a new chinstrap, the chin holder part is black on the interior and darkish blue on the outside fabric. I just looked at it, it doesn't feel like very linty fabric, however, the chin cup could have made contact with my mouth, hence some b...

Do I have CSA and not OSA? Sleepyhead data

Hello everyone, I've been posting a lot this past week, partly driven by anxiety and partly by the need to educate myself as I am a newbie. My diagnosis was obstructive sleep apnea. The initial test was a take-home device called wrist-PAP which does not differentiate between OSA and CSA. I then did ...

Re: Help, blackish residue in mouth after first use

Oh, don't think I didn't freak out!!! This last month has been one long freak out, and the black stuff put me over the edge. I thought the same thing you did about the dried blood turning more red when in contact with water. I have a feeing I'll never know what that was, but at least it did NOT happ...

Re: Why is ASV not prescribed more often?

Thanks Archangle, this helps explain. Of course my question wasn't all idle curiosity. I only used my machine for three hours last night, in the early morning actually. It was my first time on my new machine as it was just delivered yesterday. Admittedly not a lot to go by, but in that three hours S...

Why is ASV not prescribed more often?

Newbie naive question here, but I've been wondering about this: Let's say for the moment that ASV machines don't cost any more than CPAP, APAP or BiPAP. I know that is not the case, but humor me for a minute. From a strictly medical (and not monetary) perspective, wouldn't it make sense to give all ...

Is it an Autoset? Do you know how to get into the clinical menu? That's where you would set the climate control to "Patient" (it might be currently set to "Auto"), then you should see the humidity setting icon reappear on the display.

Re: Help, blackish residue in mouth after first use

Had I read this earlier, I would have suggested you collect some of the stuff and drop it off at the doc's office. A ziploc would be fine, patients have been taking gross stuff to the doctor for a long time-- (they used to use an empty baby food jar).. No need for an appointment, they will call you...

Re: My strange story

Having had that experience, did you gain any insight on why humans are so stupid to not use CPAP in the first place? I would be careful not to conclude that everyone who doesn't use or quits CPAP is stupid. I'm not saying it's smart to quit once you know you've got apnea, but even in the short time...

Re: Help, blackish residue in mouth after first use

are you a smoker by any chance? I quite smoking three years ago after a 20 year pack-a-day habit. I coughed up black, stringy stuff for weeks. No, never smoked. I'm thinking now that it was probably some dried blood from tissue irritation in my sinuses that drained into my mouth. I did a sinus rins...
