Re: OT: GERD, Famotidine and loose stools...

I take protonix for GERD. I also have a hiatal hernia. Eating smaller meals and avoiding food at bedtime helps. There is a product called Gaviscon that help. The one sold here in the US drugstores is just an antacid. The one you want has sodium alginate and coats your esophagus. It really helps a lo...

Re: Still having problems after 5 years on CPAP

I used the amaraview for a while but switched to the dreamwear. It’s very similar. All of them need to be changed regularly. The cushion of the mask wears and they leak more and more. I would try to tighten the straps and it would make things worse.
Try changing the cushion.

Good luck.

Re: Poll Beware of pills, doctors caution

We are not all the same.

I have had insomnia for twenty years. Without meds I would sleep once every two days.

My current favorite is Sonata.

Drugs are good for people!

Re: obamacare website finally fixed

"It seems to depend on what state your in and which company is writing the policy, Some will allow until Jan 10 or even Jan 15 to enroll and pay for coverage starting Jan 1." This is absurd. Insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company. You are not insured until you have paid the fi...

Re: Young woman sleeping 20 hours a day

The young woman is almost certainly suffering from depression. She will need professional help, a psychiatrist if possible. Please DO NOT advise people against getting the flu shot. We have an epidemic of H1N1 this year that is killing middle age healthy people. I don't want to alarm anyone but this...

In the future, when we are dealing with an epidemic of prostate cancer we are going to see this Low T the drug companies are pushing for the folly it is.

There is a reason we no longer use hormone replacement in women.

Re: OT:Californians Greeted Canceled Health Plans With Smiles

Many people are going to be unpleasantly surprised in January when the get sick or injured and find out what a $5,000 to $10,000 deductible means. Do you have that kind of cash in your checking account? It means that other than three office visits a year, you will pay for all your healthcare expense...

Re: Ralph Nader on the superiority of Canadian Health Care

Having lived and worked in health care in both countries I can tell you there are advantages and disadvantages to both systems. The problem with the Canadian system is the long delays in treatment of non-critical conditions. A couple of years ago my wife had a torn miniscus in her knee. She mad an a...

Don't put any petroleum based gels or ointments near your mask as they eat the latex.

Water based products only

Re: Do u think most people have apnea and don't even know?

Although measurement techniques and definitions have varied, most studies have shown that 1 in 5 adults has at least mild OSA (eg, AHI >5) and 1 in 15 has moderate or severe OSA (eg, AHI >15)

Those of us diagnosed and treated are the tip of the iceberg.

Re: Sleep Apnea and Cardiac Risk

My problem with a lot of these studies from a purely scientific viewpoint is that obesity is associated with apnea and with metabolic sysndrome. It seems clear that the metabolic syndrome contributes to coronary artery disease. It is not as clear what role apnea has. can anyone point to a study that...

Re: terrible fog with asv still please help!

I would suggest you look at your meds, especially Klonopin, as a source of your "brain fog"

You may have no choice due to anxiety or other problems but to take klonopin but all the drugs in that class cause central nervous system depression i.e. drowsiness.

Re: AHI, RDI, & outcomes

There is little evidence that CPAP treatment for mild Apnea reduces mortality but if it improves your quality of life that's all that counts.
If you feel more refreshed in the morning, especially if you were suffering from fatigue before CPAP, it's worth while.

So who pays for healthcare if the employers don't employers pay on average $10,000 per year as their share of every employee's healthcare the fine under the ACA for not providing insurance is just $2,000 the law gives employers a $2,000 incentive to drop your insurance so if employers across the cou...
