I put in the wrong screen name on my previous post, as I was not yet logged in when I responded.

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

My doctor thinks I'm a scared nut. I think you'd agree that you're scared (look at how you titled this thread). I doubt your doctor thinks you're a "nut," and if you perhaps you need a different doctor. Do you think it's possible that because my apnea is not that high, they might be exaggerating my...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

The central thing scared the p**p out of me, but they also told me it's pretty common to have these when you're beginning menopause, and you're nervous. I also had two head injuries over the years; one car accident, and the other was a domestic violence situation; where I was hit in the head. They ...

Re: Somewhat OT - If you take meds

Sadly, most of the medical profession regards anything involving a nutrient as voodoo (apologies to any practitioners of the religion). They seem to forget that we need to eat for ... a reason maybe? Unless, of course, they see an opportunity to ban us from eating anything that tastes good or has p...

Re: Especially for newly diagnosed - Dealing with Change

Thank you so much for this, I too, thought as soon as I lose weight that thing (Cpap mask) can come off. Big error. I got a great deal from your post and have posted a reply today. Didn't even think about the denial, anger think etcetera. It all starts to make sense now. I know there's a reason for...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

I've been sleeping with a wrist pulse ox on, because of the fear of all of this, for the last six months or so. Last night in the lab was the first time I slept without it since day one. I still don't have my machine, so I'm going to strap it back on, so if the level goes too low, it will alarm. Has...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

The reason I need a full face mask is because I have non-allergic rhinitis, and when I lie in certain positions, my nose becomes more stuffy. That pressure was so high that even when I was breathing through my nose, while lying on my back, I felt my mouth being pried open by the air. Pressure is re...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

Yes, ASV is commonly prescribed for central apnea plus it will also take care of any obstructive apnea events. Doesn't really matter if it is "mild" vs "severe" because to treat centrals you need a machine that will deliver a quick response high pressure burst to sort of jump start your breathing w...

I also forgot to mention that I am not a loud snorer; light noise when snoring, and they said it was not all that frequent. I have a very long tongue, and I still have my tonsils at 48 years of age.

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

As a user of a Philips ASV machine, I can recommend it highly. Hang in there, it will get better. Thank you. I didn't actually mind the mask being on my face. That part didn't freak me out as much as the pressure feeling and the dryness. Is it common to prescribe an ASV even though one has a mild f...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

Do you have a copy of both your sleep study and your titration study? If not please get them. The gas issue is called aerophagia and may be a result of high pressure. With a full face mask, to reduce the dry mouth in the morning, get and use a soft cervical collar. It will support your jaw which ha...

Re: Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

Hang on. By "ventilation-assisted" do you mean an ASV? I gather that you had a sleep study before, and this was your titration last night. Do you have a copy of your original sleep study? I feel like I have jumped into the middle of your thought process, but I don't have enough information to follo...

Had second study with mask, last night. Confused, scared.

I have been told that I have the occasional onset/waking central (they say it's common with anxiety) and my index is 5.1 on that. I have an AHI of 12, so they told me I have "mild" sleep apnea, so... why did he put me on ventilation assisted pap, with high pressure? It was a resmed light full face m...
