Re: Purchase new machine, send bill to Medicare

Your first mistake....believing what the DME told you without verifying with Medicare what they told you. First of all...even without the recall thing Medicare is no longer automatically paying for new machines after 5 year mark. They (Medicare) now require the machine to be broken or not fixable o...

Re: Ethical Angst about an elder who loaned me his ResMed

My Mom is 87, needs a cpap but refuses. I understand her reasons and don't disagree, but it is frustrating. As already said, you can lead a horse. She'll probably outlive me. I would just let him know that you are grateful for his generosity but if he changes his mind, you will be happy to bring it ...

Have you checked your humidifier bin? I get a high pitch when it's not installed correctly. Maybe you have leaky seal?

Re: Pressure in ears .... E tubes?

Before considering adding a tube, ask to try acetic acid (it's a prescription level stuff) for a month. It eliminated the buildup that I had and all was well for that issue. I can't help on the tinnitus - I have it, but had it long before cpap.

Re: Traditional Cpap vs Apap

I'm curious about the different specifications for machines. I was started off with apap from the beginning so I understand how that works. Do many people still use the traditional cpap or have most people switched over to apap? Is there a reason some need to stick with cpap? And then is bilevel di...

Re: Who Keeps A Backup CPAP Machine?

Yep, have one. Make sure to use your backup 3-4 days every 6 months or so or you get 'old motor' odor sometimes. I got that with the s9 but not with the Airsense so YMMV. Bought a machine in desperation before my titration and that became my backup when I got my insurance paid for machine. Found a m...

Re: How much does your hospital charge for CPAP?

Anytime I take my brother to the ER, I pack his bipap and take it with. He is admitted 75% of the time. They want him to bring his machine and he uses it in the ER since he can't breathe laying down at a 45 degree angle. It will be so nice when he gets his 5 year replacement machine - we'll leave th...

Re: Using Acetazolamide to treat sleep apnea above 5000 feet

I do take 81mg aspirin. Do you have any medical articles that describe this interaction? Have nothing on it. It's a black box warning from the FDA that my GP discovered. The neurologist confirmed it, but I don't remember if I was told why. It was more important that I take the azetazolomide, so I q...

Re: Using Acetazolamide to treat sleep apnea above 5000 feet

I was on Acetazolomide for a different reason. No effect on sleep apnea, but I haven't been at altitude. I was on a very high dosage. Note - side effects are a problem. Again, I was on a high dosage, but I developed neuropathy in my feet and ringing in my ears. After the 3rd round, this became perma...

Re: Got tinnitus from cpap? This will help.

If I could have worked at a Costco 30 years ago, I might have never gone back to college, leading to a 24 year career as a county gis tech. Costco stands out as a model employer--and a distinct contrast to every retailer I had the misfortune to work for. I can only say that my local Cosco does not ...

Do what Okie mentioned. I got my original Resmed Swift FX nasal Pillow mask from our sponsor by buying the parts - didn't need a script. Worked great!

Re: Got tinnitus from cpap? This will help.

CPAP use has had zero effect on my tinnitus, for ill or good. Just because you didn't experience the problem, doesn't mean others did not. He had tinnitus, now he doesn't. Very likely cpap has some influence on some people if his simple solution resulted in ending the tinnitus. I do sympathize as I...

Re: Left Over Distilled Water

I stopped using distilled and just use tap water now. Now that the water softener has been replaced, I don't get any buildup. So, I just dump the leftover in the plant in the morning and rinse and refill in the evening from the tap.
