Re: What's the cause and effect of Weight and Sleep Apnea
Not an expert but it seems that it is not clear which happens first- weight gain or sleep apnea. It seems that someone could have mild sleep apnea which would mess with the cortisol levels and other body things which could cause weight gain and then aggravate the sleep apnea. So if you had an underd...

Re: Feeling self conscious about starting therapy, ladies??
You married for better or worse so maybe tell him his support would be really great to have? I don't have a partner but I know it may be something I have to explain to someone in the future. Am I limited to people who have a Darth Vader fetish now?

Re: Cleaning habits
So far I have been cleaning my face mask every morning and then each Sunday I clean the mask, hose, humidifier tank and headgear straps using a CPAP parts dedicated sponge.

Re: New Sleep Apnea Sufferer, Insurance Non-Helpful ---
I think it might be best to work out what you need if you are on a budget. I have a PAP machine with humidifer, hose and mask. Most people find they use either a nasal pillow or a full face mask- it is unlikely you need both. Not sure how it works wherever you live but are you able to look at rentin...

Re: New Machine- scared to use it.
My machine starts with a large pressure for about a minute or two to check the seal of mask, then it drops and starts the ramp. When I first turn it on, it is a bit intense but I'm ready for it now. Maybe try it again and see if it is the same for yours.

Re: Encouragement needed
Though it is exciting to get you mask and machine, you almost need to hold your excitement back while you get used to the mask so you aren't disappointed that it may take a few weeks. My first 6 or so nights were fine and similar to my sleep previously then the next two were bad. The next couple of ...

Re: Mask is Complicated?
Would it be possible to put your mask on at the beginning of the night and then sleep on your side (probably not front with the mask on) and see if you are able to stand it through the night? Then you wouldn't have to put it on in the night?

Re: UARS?
Hey thanks for replying, It's crazy that you went 7 years been blown off as having depression. I'm in Northern Ireland, Not exactly sure what options I have but, I think my best bet would be to go private and have a sleep study done, I think my problem is constant nasal congestion and post nasal dr...

Re: UARS?
Also from the UK, 25, female, slim and with a small jaw. I was diagnosed with UARS this year after 7 years of diagnosed depression. I actually ended up being referred from my orthodonist. I went to look at getting my overbite fixed and an orthodonist just saw depression in my notes, looked at my jaw...

Re: Especially for newly diagnosed - Dealing with Change
Both my folks have sleep problems, too... guess maybe it actually is genetic, I don't know. I'm not overweight (too much) but I do have a noticeable 'double chin' that may be impacting my sleep. Having said that, per my wife I had the issue long before I gained the weight I'm currently carrying... ...

Re: Using Humidifier and now have chapped lips
I've just started with a CPAP and humidifier and found my lips drying out a bit but mine normally do in this weather a bit anyway. I find a lip scrub in the shower helps with flaky bits (I use one from LUSH but you can make your own. They are just oil and sugar really but LUSH does a popcorn flavour...

Re: Upcoming Gallbladder Surgery -Terrified of Anesthesia
I had my wisdom teeth out under a general last month and in my pre-surgery questionnaire let them know that I had UARS so they would be aware of my teeny tiny airway. Are you able to talk through your concerns with the surgeon or a nurse in the department? I was more worried about the needle as I'm ...

Yes, I'm down to 24 teeth. And will only be on CPAP until I get my jaws broken in a couple of years (yep, to make them bigger!) hopefully

Re: Sleep Apnea & Mental Health
I think this is the first time I've read a situation somewhat similar to mine! Untreated sleep apnea and mental health problems are very common. Yes, I know and wish my GP had thought about it when I was first diagnosed with depression! The way Rabbit54 explained her situation really resounded with...
