Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

If I do play devils advocate or push back against someone's advice, it's because I don't understand it fully and I want to press them for more information. Being argumentative and "pushing back" is not an effective way to ask for more information. It hinders effective transfer of information, by fo...

The devils advocate can also muddy the waters for someone
trying to get information by just READING.
It might be "fun", but why?
I'm not doing it for fun, I'm doing it so people will explain why I'm wrong so I can understand more fully.

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

My doctor is a world famous sleep apnea expert, but he specializes in surgical solutions and is not a CPAP expert. I trust his opinion but I also know that he has a limited perspective when it comes to CPAP. I'm trying to balance what I've been told by him as well as the information I've learned fr...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

My doctor mentioned once So, here's the thing... if your doctor is so good at this... why are you here? If you want to be stubborn, then there's not much we can do to help you... If you want to throw away your pre-conceived notions, and get better... well, that's up to you. Man, there's really no n...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

Thank you for your response. I understand that one might require different pressures throughout the night, but I am still inclined to use the 6-7 range for the next few nights simply because that is the only pressure that has successfully treated me so far. Then, why ask? Your desired settings are ...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

Initially my doctor had my range set at 6-18. I assumed my high AHI was caused by the wide range This idea that "a wide range" has any meaning, or detriment, needs to die! Problems are caused by *too low a minimum pressure* , not by the "range". Your higher AHI was because the minimum pressure was ...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

so many clear airway events ... Have I developed complex sleep apnea? Go to your Sleepyhead display for 9/14 and click on the Events tab which is just underneath the date. You can see each event's length. Let us know how the CAs lengths range. In case no one has said it yet, the machine does not kn...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

A large percentage of your events in the last graph are clear airway were you wake during that time when most of them occurred ? You can zoom in to the Air flow and check if they are real CA’s They will reduce over time you could also try reducing the EPR to 2 and see if that reduces the amount of ...

Re: Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

One other detail I should mention- I just remembered the for the second half of the successful night, during that long period of uninterrupted sleep, I switched over to a pillow mask. Is this why the pressure is so much lower? How drastic are the pressure differences of various masks? I'm not sure ...

Doctor told me "some people just don't tolerate CPAP"

Hi all. I've been trying to use CPAP unsuccessfully for over a month. I either rip the mask off in my sleep, or my AHI with CPAP is above 5, or both. When I told me doctor about my struggles he responded with the statement above. I don't understand, outside of complex sleep apnea, is it true that CP...

No leaks, narrow pressure range, AHI still high?

Machine: Resmed Airsense 10 autoset Mask: Philips Respironics Wisp I'm been on CPAP for one month and I just called my doctor about a week ago because my AHI was consistently hovering between 2-5. I didn't have a titration study so my pressure range was set to 6-18. I assumed the high AHI was caused...

Straps too small?

Hi all, I have a nasal mask (Philip's respitronics Wisp) and the large size mask fits fine but the straps are far too tight on their loosest setting. I have an enormous head, does anyone know a mask with extra long straps? I also have a pillow mask (Resmed airfit P10) with no velcro, just elastic, a...
