Re: Cluster of sleep issues
Has your doctor referred you to a therapist for anxiety issues? If not, why not? Do you exercise? Great point Julie. No they have not. But, its likely because I have been chasing my tail about all of this for the last 4 to 5 years. And the realisation that it might not just be an anatomical issue a...

Re: Cluster of sleep issues
I don't see any OSCAR results posted. Wondering whether positional apnea may be happening here, because OP used the word "clusters." It may be worthwhile to read up on positional apnea -- in the Apnea Board wiki. I havent posted any results as I am not on a Cpap.. The issues is I fall short of a sl...

Re: Cluster of sleep issues
Looked at side effects of zopiclone - a bit scary actually - was there a reason your doctor prescribed it vs other more common ones? Oh I didnt realise zopiclone was not common. I am in NZ not USA. Zopiclone seems to be commonly prescribed here as opposed to other sleeping pills. I looked up the si...

Re: Cluster of sleep issues
Little bit of melatonin? Oh I did try those. Did nothing though. I moved on to the "hard stuff". Being sleeping pills. Zopiclone. They actually work. I dont wake up much and feel great after taking half a zopiclone. But they are not a good thing for me to take often. I take half a pill once every 2...

Cluster of sleep issues
Hi all, I seem to have a cluster of sleep issues and have been chasing my tail for a long time to try and resolve them. I have tested for sleep apnea 4 times. One of them was an in-lab sleep study. All of them registered non sleep apnea. That was the diagnosis of both the ENT and 2 different sleep d...

Re: Whats causing my sleep maintenance insomnia?
Ok I went back to the ENT who did my sinus surgery. He said the nose is looking great. But, I raised with him my continuing sleep issues. I also pointed out the at-home sleep studies I had done which showed 3 to 4 HPI per hour. He said that I dont have sleep apnea. He has recommended that I try tapi...

Re: Whats causing my sleep maintenance insomnia?
[orry I missed this post last month. Did you ever try a strap? Some people like the Knightsbridge Dual strap, which pulls the jaw up but not back. Another idea might be a soft cervical collar. It seems possible the mouth breathing is now merely habitual and will stop once you break the habit. I won...

Re: Whats causing my sleep maintenance insomnia?
You need to get an in lab sleep study or a PES sleep study that is more for UARS. You sound like you have most of the same issues I have. I have chronic fatigue yet sleep studies and all labs come up negative. Yeah I want to get an in lab sleep study. It seems this is closely guarded where I am and...

Re: Bed Risers

Thanks for your suggestions re the sleeping position and pillow changes. I might try those out. My sleep is definitely r...

Bed Risers
I know this is a cpap forum, but... I am wondering about bed risers. Do people think there is much evidence to support them making a difference with sleep breathing disorders? I have done a few tests but never been diagnoses with sleep apnea. But there is stuff going on with my breathing mucking wit...

Re: Sleep studies negative but having chronic fatigue
I think we are twins. We are around the same age and mostly have all the same issues. I am a little bit similar to you in that I am having trouble working out what is causing my problems. Except I have not been as far down the diagnosis track. I tested for sleep apnea three times and it was negative...

Re: Whats causing my sleep maintenance insomnia?
Its now 4.5 months since my septoplasty and turbinate reduction on my nose. I breathe much better through my nose now. The surgery was not a complete success as I now have some nasal valve collapse on one side from the surgery. But overall, I still breathe much better through my nose. However, my sl...

AHI levels used in sleep tests for sleep apnea
The diagnostic for sleep apnea for sleep studies use a minimum AHI of 5 per hour to be classed as sleep apnea. However, why is under 5 per hour classed as the normal range? Is it common for most people to get an AHI of 3 or 4? When I say most people I mean the entire human population not just those ...

Re: Mouth breather in trouble
Holy heck you are lucky I just read your post. Read my posts and see why!! You talk about only getting a turbinate reduction. However, I think you need to discuss this very closely with your surgeon. and make sure you get CT scans and look through them and get the surgeon to take you through them. I...

Re: Whats causing my sleep maintenance insomnia?
I am almost 4 weeks post septoplasty, turbinectomy and FESS. My nose is gradually opening more and more as the swelling reduces. After nasal rinses there are times now when I can breathe completely openly through both nostrils for about 30 to 40 minutes. Feels amazing. But then swelling resumes agai...
