Re: "Sleepwalk With Me" a movie about sleep

This movie just came out on DVD and my husband and I watched it tonight. It is about a struggling stand-up comedian who has a sleep disorder. We enjoyed it a lot! Of course I rushed to the interwebs to look up Dr. WIlliam Dement. found this: http://www.end-your-sleep-deprivation.com/dr-william-demen...

Re: Sore muscles and apnea

Before CPAP treatment, I would wake up with sore/stiff joints and muscles. I would also get muscle cramps in the night (usually hamstring or arch of foot). I would almost feel dehydrated/hungover. I saw serious improvement in all of the above within the first couple weeks of good treatmeant and the...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

(snip)I see a pattern that you are experiencing typical anxiety attacks. Maybe mild ones, but still a sort of panic attack. You must realize that you are not losing your mind. (snip) My Advise to You - Relax, take some extra deep breaths and tell yourself that everything is fine. Once you realize t...

Re: Nose surgery

I have a deviated septum and some other problems that make nose breathing difficult at night. Is it worth the trouble to get my nose fixed to make my basic breathing better? I guess I'm in the minority here, but I would encourage you to talk to a (really good) ENT/plastic surgeon about it. I had a ...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

I actually leave the o2 bleed on until I am ready to stand up then I turn it off and leave the air blowing from the bipap for a few minutes. I have COPD and I think knowing I'm going to be without the o2 bleed freaks me out. Do you ever wear 02 during the day? Maybe you could just switch from the m...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

See I have the opposite problem. I'm totally laid back when I put the mask on put I have major anxiety when I take the mask off in the morning. Part of it is going off o2 and getting back to room air. I've found that if I sit with the mask on- doing my breathing techniques from Pulmonary rehab I ca...

Re: Don't know which software I use!

...there is no software, that chip is for the insurance company for compliance. I thought maybe I was missing something I need. I think what goofproof is trying to say is that we think you ARE missing something you need. We use the data on that card on our own computers to keep track of how effecti...

Re: Mental block

Sorry you think your cpap machine looks ugly. Try dressing it up with little photographs of those who love you and will miss you if you die prematurely as a result of your untreated condition. You'd be surprised - It may help motivate you! Good luck, Nate I didn't even think of that angle, Nate! If...

Re: Mental block

(snip...) I don't like it and I don't want to use it. People who have one tell me that it will be the greatest night's sleep I have ever had, I still don't like the thought of wearing it, when I put it on, I feel as if I am being suffocated. (snip...) If anyone can tell me something I haven't heard...

Re: how long is usual to get sleep study results

He called the DME and me around noon. By 3:00 on Friday I had my machine and mask with instructions to put it on when I went to bed. It can be done!! Jerry You did me one better, Jerry! Although the DME got my order quickly, they were not so quick to send it to my insurance for approval, then a cou...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

Early on, I used to get bouts mask anxiety, but the human brain can be very adaptive. IMO, at a point in the near future, I think your brain will say: "Hey, this therapy is really working, maybe I should stop pulling the 'mask anxiety alarm'. If in a few weeks I'm wrong, you can bawl me out in publ...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

(cut)I find great comfort in knowing that this is what I do every night and it seems to relax me. I really think that it takes time to get over feelings of anxiety and when you find your routine or rituals, you will find great comfort in them. Thanks for sharing this, Magster -- I hope this is true...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

(cut) My fear of sleeping without treatment made me feel more receptive to the mask and eventually interpret putting it on as a cue I could relax and sleep and it became my version of a security blanket. Have you tried using a pleasantly scented product such as PurSleep or maybe other essential oil...

Re: Fighting Anxiety

Do you know what your flow limitations look like? For example, I can get my AHI below 5 on the machine data (not an NPSG) at low pressures, but my FLs are pretty bad and would probably register as RERAs on an NPSG. I don't know what is considered "good" for a flow limitation, but last night it sure...
