Re: S9 UPS solutions w/ home generator
I am new to CPAP stuff only being on the S9 Autoset for a week. We have terrible power problems out here in the country. Lots of flickers and surges as well as times we lose power for days, once even a week. I have a LP fueled generator outside that restores power within 30 seconds. So for just abo...

Re: S9 UPS solutions w/ home generator
I doubt that the S9's power supply has much in the way of surge/spike suppression circuitry I doubt that it doesn't have it..... Resmed has been building medical equipment for global use for a long time now. Cheers, Bill I'd be surprised if the power supply of any Cpap, of whatever price or manufac...

Re: Back up Power Supply
If you need a battery to last 2 or 3 days, you are not going to want a small Cpap.com battery, which is more suited for travelling. You will need something a lot bigger. A large jump start battery pack might last 2 days (without humidifier) and is probably the cheapest option. You'd want one with fl...

Re: Taping
I'll try it again with my present machine, which has an anti-asphyxia valve in the inlet to the humidifier tank. I think the "anti-asphyxia valve" at the inlet to the humidifier tank is not considered an anti-asphyxia valve. I remember when Respironics changed the design. It was described on the on...

Re: Taping
DoriC, that alarm of yours looks ideal for people here who rely on mains power. All should order it immediately. It's better than the Radio Shack unit I suggested, as that had only an alarm and no strobe lights. At $16, it's cheap insurance. I'm gratified Dr. Park did not dismiss taping out of hand....

Re: Taping
I read the post on the message board about the 8 yr old that had problems but apparently there was a prior history of problems retaining carbon dioxide for some other health reason per the poster. Duh...big surprise there was a problem? It wasn't a medical study. It was parents turning off the mach...

Re: Taping
. . . It's precisely the need to breathe harder over time that I was expecting to occur and which surprised me by not happening. How do you know that there is a buildup of CO2 at all under machine off conditions? After all, there is some rebreathing even with the machine on. Hmm. That would worry m...

Re: Home Sleep Lab < $1000
Jay, have you ruled out noise and/or light disrupting your sleep? I recall that as I began to get Cpap working for me, I still had a hard time sleeping through the night. Among other things, I was unusually sensitive to light and sounds. I eventually figured out that any change of light through my b...

Re: Taping
An interesting experiment. But, to do it right you'd need someone to turn off the machine while you were sleeping and then monitor you for the next two hours (through a sleep cycle) to see what happens. As reported here - http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-b ... &view=next - an 8-year-old appare...

Re: S9 UPS solutions w/ home generator
All equipment with electronic parts is susceptible to damage from surges and spikes--and those can be caused by lots of things... I doubt that the S9's power supply has much in the way of surge/spike suppression circuitry; but, that would be a good questions to email Resmed. Otherwise, if you are no...

Is the filter at the air inlet dirty? When it stops, what does the LCD say?

Re: Taping
Please, let's not have unseemly personal attacks on Archangel. He's given good information both on this subject and on others. There is nothing wrong with his advice concerning the potential dangers of "taping" and the need to consider and deal with them. That's exactly what I did, when I started ta...

Re: Is it safe to assume,,,?
Is $1000 the copay? Seems cheap if it's the full cost--around here, a sleep study is much more expensive... If it were me, I'd use the $1000 to buy an auto Cpap with humidifier. In fact, at secondwindcpap.com, you can get an open box Respironics System One REMStar Auto with Aflex including humidifie...
