Re: How to get prescribed Bipap?
Interesting that in the charts you post your inspiration to expiration ratio shows as inverted, meaning that the inhalation portion of a breathe is longer than exhalation. That could be an error I suppose - I don't know how precise the various graphs are, especially if you are having some mouth leak...

Re: Why shouldn't you always use the maximum CPAP pressure?
It's helpful to determine an appropriate min and max pressure range. We don't sleep the same two nights in a row, so having room for the machine's algorithm to work is a good thing. If you have a drink or two, eat a big meal, are sick, have congestion, roll onto your back, or many other things, you ...

Re: Is resmed aircurve 10 ST model (bipap, correct?) a good backup if the price is right?
No way, ST machines are expensive and a waste of money if all you need is an APAP. Plus, as pugsy states, there is no APAP function - only set CPAP as one of the therapy modes.

Re: SPO2 meters & Dehydration detection
It probably doesn't make a difference in a generally healthy person. But if you have a cardiac or some other type of related issue, i could see being dehydrated as being a problem. Having an adequate amount of water decreases your heart rate, decreases your blood pressure, improves circulation, and ...

Re: Contec CMS50F SpO2 results - fluctuating during night
We need to see the whole nights chart. And also the summary page that includes device artifact %. Helpful to zoom in on moments lower than 90% as well, to see if they are because of loss of contact, moving around/changing positions, etc. Unless you see sustained desaturations it's probably not a big...

Re: Pressure Support Question
If you just have your garden variety obstructive sleep apnea, if reducing the pressure support improves your AHI, then go for it. Without seeing your charts, sounds like you were being over ventilated before if the moron who set up your machine had you in spontaneous mode on 20/12.

Re: New machine freaking out on me
I noticed on earlier charts you were using a pressure range of min 10, max 20. Then later on, corresponding with a higher AHI, you were using 8-20, and then for whatever reason 8-17. Did you try using 10-20 like you were originally? I don't think it would matter that much, I think there is something...

Re: Help Please with Aircurve VAuto BiPap Settings/Night Pain
I am 5'8" but I do weigh twice what I should for my height (been on steroids for autoimmune illnesses for over 6 years). I don't know how to tell if I am hyperventilating. I don't think my Aircurve VAuto has a "Rise Time" setting unless it is called something else - on the VAuto setting I don't see...

Re: Help Please with Aircurve VAuto BiPap Settings/Night Pain
It is possible that you are hyperventilating in your sleep? I wouldn't say so, since your respiratory rate is very stable throughout the night. But, a median tidal volume of 580ml + (looking at your charts) is pretty (very) high for a woman unless you're in the WNBA. How tall are you? What is your "...

Re: How bad do I need supplemental oxygen?
I think he should just leave it alone until he gets more tests and more answers. While we are aware of the benefits of CPAP/EPAP, in general, there are potential drawbacks to raising the pressure in the absence of scored AHI events (reduced cardiac output, low blood pressure, etc). I think he should...

Re: Respironics DreamWear Full Face Mask Review
This looks pretty interesting. I use a F&P Simplus FFM which I like overall, but with my high pressure support I really have to pull the headgear rather tight. The back part of it tends to bother my neck sometimes. I wonder if this will seal as well.

Re: New guy here. Why did they discourage a FF?
It could just be the technicians in the lab that you went to. To be fair, many people find the nasal masks to be more comfortable and therefore from the technicians perspective, this will improve compliance/people not getting frustrated and giving up. Many people find that at the optimal pressures, ...

USMC, I will send you a bi-level machine if you want to test it out to see if it helps your oxygen levels. Just send me a PM if you're interested. I have an AirCurve 10S laying around.

Re: Had my first pulmolnology appointment today
The complete Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) should tell more. A clear x-ray is a good thing. It sounds like your doctor is pretty open with communication. More information is definitely needed, before any "jump to conclusions" diagnosis can be made!
