Re: New User, Chemically Sensitive
Just off gas it as best as you can. Soak the tubing and the mask and humidifier in vinegar-water solution and see whether it improves. There is only so much you can do. I am also chemically sensitive(I know that several people in the forum are) and using the machine definitely affects my asthma and ...

Re: keep waking up every 50 minutes to an hour and a half
How did you sleep before CPAP? The chopped-up sleep you described is the way I generally sleep, even with medication, for the last 15 years or so (I'm 63), but worse since I retired 5 years ago. I've been on CPAP for about 6 weeks, and although I breathe better when I'm sleeping, I still don't slee...

Re: keep waking up every 50 minutes to an hour and a half
I think I've identified the main cause. I managed to sleep 3 hours with the mask continously instead of 1 just by switching the tubing. The major issue seems to be leakage. Today I had very little leakage compared to normal. But i still get leaks after 3 hours. I have to eliminate that issue complet...

Re: keep waking up every 50 minutes to an hour and a half
here is what it looks like. I have no idea what happens. But apparently i have a clear airway event and my pressure increases to 10 cmHO, when i wake up. I'm not sure if that's central apneas or if i'm just stopping breathing.

keep waking up every 50 minutes to an hour and a half
I'm still getting used to the cpap machine. But honestly I think I'm failing badly. I can only sleep a very limited time (3-4 hours) of chopped up sleep. I wake up almost every 50 minutes to an hour. With ambien/zolpidem I can sleep 5 hours straight without waking up. But it's not a long term soluti...

Re: Central apneas real? And choking during sleep?
8 CA's are nothing to be concerned about at all. Without knowing anything about your father, such as pressure settings for what prescription #'s, it's impossible to advise. I haven't been able to convince him to go to a doctor and get a remittal to sleep specialist . He was diagnosed in 2000-2001 a...

Central apneas real? And choking during sleep?
Can anyone experienced give me their opinion. Are these central apneas real? (Don't mind the date.... I did a retarded mistake when I was changing the settings). http://oi66.tinypic.com/w6up92.jpg Should take these seriously or discard them as basically as false flags? I also have another question. ...

Waking up just as you're about to sleep
I've done pretty much everything you can expect to achieve compliance. I'm still having this issue. I wake up just as I'm about to sleep. It's not caused by the cpap. It's not caused by the mask fit( Which is almost perfect by all measures). It's like I can't sleep. Do I need ambien?

semi success
Ok so I've finally managed to get a grip on the treatment. I pretty much know the kinks of the mask and how to get it to work. I've gone from barely tolerating the mask's pressure on my face. To almost being able to fall asleep with it and having short amounts of sleep with it. The question is, how ...

Re: Losing hope... no mask is for me?
the elan soft cloth will seal good if you meticulously follow the instructions. But the problem as always is comfort. The lower seam irritates my philtrum area(the are between my nose and upper lip). But if you can tolerate that, it won't be an issue at all. It seals rather well. The only problem is...

minimal silicone mask
I'm trying to find a mask that is minimally silicone but still comfortable. Most silicone masks seem to irritate my lungs. I bought the dreamwear and while it was comfortable, I couldn't sleep with it as it made my asthma worse. The cloth mask (elan soft cloth)I'm currently using is difficult to adj...

Re: trouble falling asleep
Of primary importance is to sleep, leaks are secondary. Sleep with the leaky but comfortable mask for a few weeks, let the machine deal with it. Get used to sleeping with a mask for long lengths of time. Then when you have that going for you, then start tweaking to get the perfect mask. Do not focu...

Re: trouble falling asleep
A couple things: "turned off the ramp feature to avoid unnecessary increases in air pressure " not exactly what ramp does. IF you are having trouble falling asleep BECAUSE your starting pressure is uncomfortable, ramp lets you set a lower pressure and the ramps to your starting pressure in an amoun...

Re: trouble falling asleep
Yes. Prior to getting OSA. Sleeping took 10 minutes max.Michelle-OH wrote:Prior to cpap did you fall asleep easily? I have never fallen asleep quickly and I haven't found that to change with the cpap, don't know if it's supposed to help with falling asleep, but it definitely helps me stay asleep.

Re: trouble falling asleep
Hello again. I've done pretty much everything that can be expected to become therapy compliant. Eliminated leaks, carefully followed mask instructions, turned off the ramp feature to avoid unnecessary increases in airpressure that causes awakenings, used the mask during the day to get accustomed to...
