Re: Alright looking for ideas for summer backpacking trip

Have I got some ideas for you! First, though, I would not so blithely decide to do without the Cpap. While I don't think you are any more susceptible to sleep apnea and its effects now than you were before starting Cpap, it just isn't a good idea to put your body through that kind of stress. Also, y...

Re: Taping

I'm sure that taping comes with some risks that should be considered, and I wouldn't suggest that anyone try taping as a first resort. But, after you determine that a serious mouth leak issue is not going away and that chin straps don't help, what is there left to do? Untreated sleep apnea is very ...

Re: ASV users: join the everything ASV thread.

I do better (lower AHI) without Flex, as do many others. There's a study somewhere--I forget where--showing that all Flex-like features are likely to make things worse and explaining why. I also do not like Ramp which, as pointed out, means you are not getting full pressure as you fall to sleep, a t...

Re: Battery questions and other

... If I went the route of using a Deep Cycle battery, I'd probably pick it up locally since Amazon doesn't have much of a choice and most places have insane shipping prices and by the charger and case online. Ideally I would like to get 4 days out of the battery on my setup, I know I can get a DC ...

Re: Battery questions and other

What they said. Also, no free lunches when it comes to weight or other tradeoffs. Your lightest, most efficient, and most trouble-free configuration will be running your Cpap directly off a battery (assuming it can run directly off 12 volts); worst in all those categories will be running it off a UP...

Re: What;s the worst tip you ever had from CPAPTalk?

Someone saying to tape your mouth shut. Seriously, that can't be a good idea. Taping is not the first thing to try, of course; but it can be a very good idea if chin straps and other solutions do not work to stop serious mouth leaks. Probably the best tip I acquired online (from an earlier board)...

Re: Lost power last night.

I tend to agree that if the Cpap goes off, a reasonably-normal person will wake up before dying of CO2 buildup. But, to add some extra insurance, you can buy a battery-operated alarm ($20 or so) that plugs into a wall socket; when the power goes off, the alarm goes on and wakes you up. Also, remembe...

Re: cpapauction.com???

The sudden closure of the site left a lot of us asking questions. I learned of it when the seller of an item emailed me to say everything was cancelled because Cpapauction had ceased operation. I looked, and the site indeed had all auction information removed. Some days later, the present message we...

Post-move, I've sent PM's that ended up in the Outbox rather than Sent Messages, even though the interface said they were being sent. Were they sent? (I've had no replies.)

Re: Forum is kinda like a 12-Step Anonymous group

Is the Cpap machine, then, the "higher power" without which we cannot succeed and to which we have to submit? I don't entirely disagree about the denial, although I think it cuts both ways. That is, while there is a natural tendency to deny that something is wrong that requires us to use a machine e...

Re: Treating Obs. Sleep Apnea With Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation

Sounds like a step in the right direction to me. After all, while awake, our muscles hold the airways open; so, we know that stimulating the proper muscles should work while asleep to hold things open. Won't help with central events, of course, except to the extent they are caused by pressure.

It's great that you continue to feel good with lower AHI's. Sounds like you're on to something. Please let us know how it goes.

I've been setting the sampling rate at 20hz but can set it at anything reasonable.

I'll try to find that ResScan hack, thanks.
