I put up a new video showing comparisons of me before low carb and now. You can really see the changes after only 8 weeks (and 37.6 pounds lost).

Re: ED & libido
Just got my new labs back. Testosterone came back as 258 ng/mL (against a normal range of 300-890). Free testosterone was 47 pg/mL (against a normal range of 47-244). "T % free" was 1.8% (normal 1.6-2.9%). It looks like my T levels haven't changed much between two years ago (pre-APAP) and now (after...

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in
Just got recent labs in the mail. Results from blood tests after 6 weeks of low carb: Total Cholesterol: Down from 227 to 191 Triglycerides: Down from 157 to 100 (yay, hopefully this will give my inflamed fatty liver some relief) LDL: Down from 154 to 135 Fasting Blood Glucose: Down from 101 to 92 (...

Re: Low-carb eating: reporting in
I lost 35.6 pounds in 7 weeks (12/19/09 - 2/6/10) by restricting my carbs to less than 40g/day. This week, I experimented with raising my carbs (beans and veggies) and promptly overdid it. My appetite came back, my energy levels dropped, and I retained 5 pounds of water. It's taking me a couple days...

Re: ED & libido
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have something else going on. That's one reason I chimed in on this thread and mentioned testosterone levels. Sleep apnea can cause SOOOO many symptoms that once those symptoms start clearing up...an optimistic person might start to hope everything will eventually get better....

Re: ED & libido
This is a subject I'm looking into as well. I've never had spontaneous erections/wet dreams, stopped getting morning erections in my mid-20's, and have had almost no libido for over 16 years. I'm 42 now. My current record is 13 adult years without sex! And more like 18 years without "good sex", lol....

Re: The Brain Damage We Have Incurred
My memory had gotten really bad. At 41, I had no vivid memories earlier than my 20's and only a few "echoes" of major events that had been repeated in my mind over and over. Even huge chunks of my 20's and 30's were a blur. But now, after 11 months on APAP. My memory has definitely improved. And I'm...

Re: apap, is range too narrow
I've been using APAP range 10-12 for about 11 months and it's perfect for me. I spend the majority of the night at 10, but it spikes up to 12 for awhile in REM sleep. My AHI is under 2. The reason APAP helps me is that when I am on CPAP all night at 12...I end up swallowing too much air and have pai...

Re: Eating the Low-Carb Way: your place to share
TSSleepy - thank you SO much for sharing your info! I have really been wondering about what kind of weight loss I might expect. I think I too am going to keep some kind of fitness/health/fat loss journal. 35 lbs in 48 days is VERY encouraging!!! I'm going to check out your youtube video now. I shou...

Re: Eating the Low-Carb Way: your place to share
My body runs much better on a low carb diet. I come from a long line of Type2 diabetics. Typical Breakfast: 4 eggs scrambled with 1 oz (28g) of shredded cheddar Typical Lunch: Two grilled chicken breasts, one medium granny smith apple for dessert Typical Afternoon Snack: 2 Mozerella Cheesesticks and...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support
Sorry to revive thread but I found another (newer) video of Taubes presentation to Datmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center entitled - Why We Get Fat: Adiposity 101 and the Alternative Hypothesis to Obesity (~ 1 hr long) http://www.dhslides.org/mgr/mgr060509f/f.htm Perhaps it may turn on a few more light ...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support
The whole "calories in-calories out" all you need to do is "eat less and exercise" idea is laughingly simplistic. It's like telling someone with sleep apnea to just "remember to breathe when they sleep". It's like telling an alcoholic to "drink in moderation". People vastly overestimate the amount o...

Re: ~10 months for me to feel "good"
before CPAP, any serious cardio exercise left me feeling drained and exhausted for 48 hours and any kind of weight-lifting led to night-time cramps (even when staying hydrated and taking potassium supplements). I have experienced these things as well for the past several years. I could not figure o...

Re: OT (sort of) : cholesterol and diet
A lot of good info here and most of what I would say has already been said by DreamStalker. I just wanted to add that Jillian Michaels (trainer from "Biggest Loser") has a book out called "Mastering Your Metabolism" and it's another good source for how your hormones (like insulin, cortisol, and estr...

~10 months for me to feel "good"
Hi All, I just wanted to throw out an update. I started CPAP on an estimated pressure and ill-fitting mask around mid-February 2009. I had a good mask and an APAP with the right pressure by the end of March 2009. Some of my symptoms saw almost immediate improvement (morning headaches, morning muscle...
