Re: In person Fitting Required for new CPAP for 20 year user
Thanks everyone - I will check with my insurance company about whether they require it. It just makes no sense to me. I can have an "e" visit with my internist if I think I have pink eye and receive a Rx but can't handle a phone call with the DME. They are told what pressure to set the machine at a...

Re: In person Fitting Required for new CPAP for 20 year user
It could be that your insurance company has a contract that is similar to Medicare. You are REQUIRED to go for a 'fitting' when you get a new machine paid for by Medicare. It is not an option - it is part of the Medicare contract that requires educating the patient on the machine. Some DMEs slide it...

Re: Pathetic DR visit!!
Thanks you all! I have pretty much decided to just take care of myself. If, after 2.5 months, the doc doesn't want to see me again for a year....I guess that's what he expects me to do anyway. I guess I just expected/wanted someone (and he is bd certified in sleep disorders) to CARE a little more.....

Re: What machines are remotely controllable? That seems like not necessarily a good thing (?)
Just call your DME. DME will not change pressure on your machine without a doctor's order. They might check it during the compliance period, and then change it back to what the doctor ordered if you fiddled with it, but they don't get paid for these changes by Medicare (US) and most insurance compan...

Re: Settings Per Mask Type.
My Airsense has a setting for Full Face vs. Pillows. I never found that the pressure was significantly different using the full face other than the fact that I'm using it only when I have a bad cold. I'm like you, if there is a problem, I HATE to get up to fix it because then it takes me awhile to g...

Re: Frustrated Non-Apnea CPAP User
Just wanted to add that I just purchased a travel CPAP machine from Secondwindcpap.com. Not only did they not ask for a prescription (I live in the US), but they sent me an email asking me to respond about whether or not I wanted them to set the pressure and offered to help me set it myself once I ...

I did the same thing. That doesn't mean that there aren't other causes, but it is a frequent cause.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 1:12 amI had a clunking noise when breathing due to the humidifier not sealing correctly, I pulled of the seals reseated and problem went away

Re: Power Outage Lighting
I bought battery powered votive lights in the past and they did not have much light. I'll have to revisit that because I enjoy having candlelight around the holidays. Here's what I use for power out and any other time I need a flashlight. I prefer the 2nd generation Blocklite especially in my purse ...

In general, you have more success if you know what you want and have that put on the script.

Re: CPAP & Eye Vitreous Detachment, Related?
I was diagnosed with vitreous detachment after a year or so of using CPAP. The oothamalogist said I was younger than normal to have this eye problem. I started wondering if it was related to CPAP, particularly not using humidification, since the lacrimal duct is connected to the nose. I wonder if s...

Re: Very low blood pressure at night
The blood pressure problem is likely completely separate from the sleep apnea. If you are overweight or obese and have such a low blood pressure, then you need to confer with your doc or see a cardiologist. It's true that you can have low blood pressure and it be completely normal for you, but I'd w...

Re: ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset vs. Philips Dreamstation Auto
If she found that both machines treated her apnea and the algorithm didn't wake her up, she should pick the machine that has the features she prefers. She's going to be using this machine nightly for at least 5 years, so treatment being equal, she will have fewer annoyances going with the Dreamstati...

Re: Blood sugar higher since starting cpap.
Higher blood sugar can be caused by cpap use. If you are sleeping more soundly, your body isn't working as hard to keep you alive. As a result, there may be less movement. This can result in a small increase in blood sugar. However, if the trend is 10% or more, then you may have to consider that you...

Re: Medicare Question
Contact your DME. Presuming Medicare bought your machine in the first place, the DME is contracted to repair or replace if the machine is less than 5 years old from date of purchase. This assumes you have original Medicare. Advantage plans work differently. Your situation is exactly why I have a bac...

Re: Hospital respiratory folks: you gotta love 'em
Loved the photos. However, keep in mind that not everybody uses a cpap for apnea and oxygen might actually work just as well. Not the usual situation though, I admit.
