Re: OT - diabetes diet
Ask her doctor for a referral to a nutritionist/dietician to whom the doctor should send her history. We are NOT doctors, and while some here are pretty knowledgable about Cpap, we would be irresponsible to even suggest anything re a diabetic's diet (tho' I'm sure many will chime in with their hist...

Re: OT - diabetes diet
The easiest way to dive in to control your blood sugar is to follow either Mediterranean diet or Weight Watchers. I have nothing against Keto or other suggestions here - many work. But the failure rate is high, especially long term, when many people try to switch their lifestyle too dramatically. Po...

Re: Sleeping sitting up with adjustable bed frame
If you have mild apnea, give it a try. Before getting the adjustable bed, spend less by getting a 'wedge' and trying that out. Or sleeping in a recliner. Raising the head of the bed worked ok for my late BIL. Not 100%, but his snoring stopped. It's worth giving a try with the understanding that fail...

Re: buying parts online
My brother reported a piss odor from his machine at one time, but it remained a mystery as it went away. Did a thorough cleaning, used lemon juice and he could still smell it. A couple of weeks later, he didn't smell it. Since he does occasionally turn humidification off accidentally, I'm thinking ...

Re: buying parts online
Ridiculous statement....If you are buying on line and you already have a machine...why do you need the DME? Why would a vendor drop a paying customer? Not ridiculous. I am making the comment based on the fact that at least two people on this forum posted that they were dropped by their DME for not ...

Re: Insurance Company Monitoring My Data
Insurance only gets the compliance information unless you are requesting a switch to a more complex machine. Then they MAY look at the data or they may just agree with the doctor that you failed Cpap. The compliance info comes from the DME and they only supply what they are required to. Info from in...

Re: buying parts online
The schedule is WHEN Medicare will pay. Most insurance companies use the same schedule. DMEs use that to push product, whether you need it or not because they only make money when you accept product. They imply that you MUST replace it or that bacteria laden stuff will make you sick. Nonsense. There...

Re: Plain Water vs Scented Water
I've switched to using tap water in mine. It IS a hassle for some and has become onerous for me for various reasons (cost is not the issue). If your water smells chlorinated, try filling your water chamber when you get home from work. Chances are, that odor will have dissipated before you go to bed....

Re: Medicare, DME, and replacement Bi_level machine
Well, it's something new. Lincare was my brother's provider when he got his second bipap machine. There was no approval group at the time, but in addition, we weren't stuck with the bid process either at that time. I would just say wait it out. Lincare goes by the policy of 15,000 hours as 'worn out...

One of the points that was made "but the underlying glucose resistance may still be present" is true. They found the same thing to happen with cats. Even cats fed raw food diet develop diabetes in the absence of carbs. They confirmed this when these cats (those who developed diabetes) developed chr...

Re: Ketogenic Diet (Keto) - Ineffective and Dangerous
continuing to "prescribe" high-carb diets Are you saying many doctors or nutritionists do that? (Sorry, I wouldn't know because no one in my family is obese or diabetic.) Nutritionists get their liscencing from places like the ADA (American Diabetes Association) so they are more or less stuck with ...

Re: Damn prescription
Many states, by law, restrict prescriptions to one year. Some have 2 years. My state no longer accepts lifetime or 99 month prescriptions - it is invalid after 1 year. So yeah, it's pretty common. There has been discussion, although I don't have a link, that Medicare now requires an annual prescript...

Re: Restless Legs Study
Interesting thing KTeague. I recently had a fall that injured my knee and shinbone. I didn't have ANY RLS for 2 solid weeks. I know it wasn't the ibuprofen since I've used that before without any change. Hormone changes can cause pain, but maybe also have some action on RLS. In any case, the RLS is ...
