Re: Prescription for CPAP?
I doubt if they have DME's in Finland, probably comes straight from the Doctor. Actually yes. I guess the systems are quite different. Maybe "clinic" would be better expression. I wonder if "sleep polyclinic" makes sense in US? Anyway, some doctors order the titration settings, because "the machine...

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
OK, so I could tell the people on the forum that secondwind is an option for people that can't get diagnosed or
whose machine is taken away for too little use/tampering with settings. (Some docs STILL order 4 - 20 cm H2O to patients).
Thank you all.

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
I understand cpap.com still doesn't deliver to foreign countries (or did it deliver to Canada?). That's why I ordered my smart card elsewhere. Well, that was quite some years back... I might bend the rules a bit, but I'm not sure if I should publicly advise people to do so. And I guess very few doct...

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
Well, I don't need a machine. It's all about helping people on a Finnish apnea forum.

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
Looks like secondwind also requires a doctor's permission.
We have to pay VAT for imported stuff. And it's usually bigger than duty.

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
it would be easier for many if they could buy a machine from US.... you mean, like I just said you can? Officially. That is: from a company. The paperwork with customs, IRS and such is too complicated for many of them. The companies usually handle those. Then there is a possibility of reclamation i...

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
I'm trying to find out whether CPAPs can be 'officially' bought without prescription by my fellow Finns on a Finnish CPAP-site. I already have a machine (S8 Autoset) that will probably be changed to a new one (by my DME). I understand that from Australia you can buy one without prescription, but it ...

Re: Why are people in denial?
I think that there are still too many doctors that think sleep apnea is just a consequence of overweight and loosing weight cures the sleep apnea.
Another thing is that too many people think that sleep apnea is just a comfort issue.

Re: RERA vs. AROUSALS
I may be wrong, but I understand that RERA (was it Respiratory Effort Related Arousal)? is breathing-related arousal. RERAs are subset of arousals.

Re: Prescription for CPAP?
Thanks, Julie. So officially in US: no prescription - no CPAP.
I was also hoping for responses of Europeans here. I'm a Finn myself, and I know there are many other Europeans here too.

Prescription for CPAP?
Hi.
Is prescription or some other paper still needed in US to buy a CPAP?
How about European countries?

What does the SW do then?
I understand that the limits are CPAP-specific - the leaks they are able to compensate.
The SW can't change that, but if the SW doesn't show something then, that's a different matter.

Re: Liquids
Also, what's your pressure - the actual pressure? Pressure above 10 cm water are known to trigger centrals on some people. I guess the triggering pressure is personal. That's why ResMed (at least upto S8) Autoset algorithm doesn't raise the pressure over 10 cm water in case of apneas. Only hypopneas...
