That explains a lot of things...

So I was reading one of the articles referenced above this forum and one phrase in particular caught my eye... "An MRI of several apnea patients revealed damage to key parts of the brain..." Well that would explain my bouts with stupidity... I'm not sure what "key parts of the brain" are but it's go...

Don't have much advice other than hang in there. Maybe if you can give us some details about your experience and what setup you are using, we can give some tips. For my experience, the first night was truly horrible. Luckily I did it on a Friday evening so I could just muddle through Saturday very a...

Okay not to be contradictory but that's where I said you have to also take into account the validity of the study and such. (Not saying that this study is invalid in any way). But there seems to be a lot of studies that say OSA does cause some nightime events in BP, and heart rate. What doesn't seem...

Nice post barbyann. Very well said. I really don't have any information to add to this thread except my own personal thoughts and experiences. Of course that's never stopped me from opening my mouth before. (Of course the J&J tape I use at night does). I've got some of the feelings that i_am_jim has...

Well I'm down 4 lbs. to 246 but I was holding at 250 for a long time and I've been bouncing through +/- 5 lbs for awhile. It's a little discouraging but I can look at the positives of my working out. 35 minutes on the stairmaster every M-F, must be 6 weeks or so and still keeping up with it. Today w...

"I'm NOT dieting. I'm living. I'm eating healthy about 95% of the time, indulging in the occasional smaller servings of fat-laden pizza and french fries, etc. " Bingo. And that there is, I think, the only way to success. You have to indulge yourself every once in a while, otherwise you will fail. He...

Alright, yah pulled me in. I didn't lose any weight this week but I'm at least trying to eat better and exercise. But if we're going to do this, I think we should discuss how we got where we are and how we are going to get back from the "abyss". I'm 6'2" and 250lbs. I would like to actually be under...

Well for me the Activa is what I use. I tried the Swift to avoid the big headgear thing on my forehead. But the dang thing was just too noisy for me. I may try it again at a later date. As to your question, some people just prefer less stuff on their forehead or they find teh Activa doesn't work for...

Did you say "duct tape"???? That must be pretty nasty pulling on your face when removing it, isn't it? I would suggest using some sort of medical tape. Costs a bit more but a heck of a lot more comfortable and safe. I use the J&J waterproof tape. Do a search in this forum for "mouth breathe" or "tap...

Well I think it really is simply that we males are too much of "Ugh! Me strong! Me not have any medical problems! Ugh! Ugh!" and not enough of "You know, I snore like a freight train, maybe I should get this checked out before it does some real damage." My excuse, such as it is, is that I didn't rea...

No problem RG. Your info. has been invaluable to me in my battle with the "air compressor of evil...". I must admit I was wondering just how you would manage to put a 4" wide patch of tape on your face. The image in my head were pretty amusing. Of course looking at my own "clown mouth" with tape was...

Hmmmm, 50 cent a day for the chin-up strips? That's kind of pricey for me. I've just started using the J&J waterproof tape recommended here. I use the 1" tape since I can't find the wider stuff. I cut 2 approx. 5-6" pieces and overlap them. Then I do the RG recommended "fold over pull tabs" and seal...

Well just a note of caution here as well. Don't expect too much right away. And in a lot of cases the improvements can be subtle and occur over time. Also, it can be very challenging getting used to the equipment. It's quite possible to feel worse for a while. For me, my first night was totally horr...

Thanks sleepless. I did look for the Tegaderm stuff first. I did finally find it but only in the smaller size. Any suggestions on where to purchase the Tegaderm. Also, do you do the tape solution every night?

Misadventures of a Mouthbreather...

Hello all, So I'm still fighting the mouth breathing issue. In my case it usually happens around 2-3am, when I'm most deeply asleep I would guess. My jaw drops and whoosh: mouth maelstrom, twister in my teeth, cyclone on my cheeks... This is possibly the one big disadvantage to APAP, it tries to com...
