Re: OT - Thanks to Janknitz and DreamStalker (diabetes/diet)

Could be that you are consuming hidden carbs/alcohol sugars? …. I've read some labels on organic deli meat packages that actually contain as much as 15 to 20 grams of sugars per serving. However, assuming that your “fasting blood sugar” is taken in the morning soon after waking, then that would be ...

Re: OT - Thanks to Janknitz and DreamStalker (diabetes/diet)

Actually, a person can maintain a state of ketosis regardless of whether the fatty acids are sourced from dietary fat or stored body fat .... so long as insulin is suppressed. As noted previously ... a state of ketosis is defined as a metabolic condition such that the blood ketone level of beta-hyd...

Do you mean no food of any kind: No Fats, Carbs, Protein? What about bone broth or MCT oil?

Re: OT - Thanks to Janknitz and DreamStalker

. . . Keto diet solved my insomnia and . . . Interesting! I hadn't thought about it until you said that, but I too have had fewer awakenings during the night since starting this approach. Yeah, well it depends on the root cause of the insomnia, and there are a lot of reasons for it. If you have blo...

Re: OT - Thanks to Janknitz and DreamStalker

My apologies to the board for keeping this off-topic thread going. PM me, anybody, if you find it too irritating, and I'll find a forum on diet and diabetes. It's just that I already know some long-time reputations here for getting observations and thought-provoking ideas from people whose thoughts...

Re: Somewhat OT/Eating to your meter

I'm not even pre-diabetic by any means, but the data geek inside me loves this idea and has started tracking each meal this week. Is there an app anyone recommends for correlating the data? There are a ton of apps for tracking blood sugar, and a ton for tracking food intake, but I'm not finding any...

Re: Another somewhat OT/ADA partnering with a vending company

That's true. But, a Snickers candy bar is my favorite! Big decisions here. Mine too..., but I try to keep my total carbs (Not Net Carbs) down to 25 a day, NOT per meal, the Snickers has to go.. Atkins has a new line of Bars out: Harvest Trail. Only 4g net carbs, 8g protein, 9g fiber, and 1g sugar. ...

Re: OT: sort of - do you trust your doctor?

I trust my doctor to give me her best advice as she knows it. However I do my own research, reading, understandings, and I then make up my own mind as what to do. It;s my life and only I bare the results, good or bad, not my doctor.

Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story

@Dreamstalker -- that is a really frightening story! especially since I'm dealing with AFIB also (and taking those poisonous drugs). Yes, the drugs do kill you slowly but quite likely also quicker than the Afib. Look into finding an electrophysiologist with lots of experience in ablation proceedure...

Re: Back in the Saddle Anxiety/Temperature

Yes cpap therapy helps with all those feelings. Think about it. During the night you stop breathing and your body reacts as if you are being attacked, choked. It generates all the same stress hormones as if you were mugged in an alley. It takes hours for those stress hormones to wash out. .....+1

Re: Somewhat OT/Eating to your meter

Also, to others, I didn't mean to cause a stir regarding organic food. My point, not clearly made, is that whether your food is organic or not will not make a bean of difference on your diabetes since the issue is unrelated. There's a lot of claim that organic food, in its own right, will improve d...
