Does going dry shorten the lifespan of a CPAP machine? I’ve only occasionally used water.
No, provided that you turn the humidifier off (or to zero).

Re: Dream Station 2

I don't know if the original poster got this machine as a replacement for a recalled DS1, or if it's his/her first CPAP machine. If you are still in possession of your "old" machine, you can determine the settings. Otherwise, if you live in the US and obtained the machine in the ordinary way, you ha...

Re: Odor / Chemical Smell

The one thing that I would suggest is to make sure that the odor is coming from the machine. That is, make sure that this is not an odor that is present in the room!

Re: OHIP coverage for CPAP machine?

Resmed machines are top of the line. I wouldn't buy any other brand. I certainly don't recommend Philips Respironcs (Remed's main competitor). While my personal experience with their machines has been satisfactory, their handling of the recall (and cover-up prior) has been abysmal! I did have a Fis...

Re: Lifespan of my machine

To the orginal poster, It's time for a new one. I suggest you keep the old one as a backup (test it at least once per month by running it for at least ten minutes). Due to the recall scandal, I recommend you not get a Phillips/Respironics machine (you don't have one now). Although I have that brand ...

Re: Need new machine, what's state of art in 2023?

Although I can't report any issues personally, I can't recommend Phillips machines. I had a Dream Station 1, which was replaced by a Dream Station 2 due to a recall. While I did not experience any issues, the behavior of this company has lead my to conclude they're not reputable and that I would not...

Re: Problem with CPAP

To the original poster, Please be more specific. • Are you unable to start the machine or to put the mask on securely? • Are you able to run the machine, put the mask on, but are unable to tolerate it? • Are you able to do all of the above, but are still not getting relief? • Is there some other pro...

Re: Auto-adjusting cpap machines

If you always (or almost always) are above x , then the minimum should be x , or slightly more than x . If the machine starts to feel like it's blowing too hard and waking you up at higher pressures, you'll probably need to find a high point lower than the machine max. If you set the machine max and...

Did you check/replace the filter? Is there a clear path to the intake?
Oops, check that! I should have thought if it when I first read the post. Please do check the filter specifically and the intake in general.

104 million Indians may be suffering from sleep apnea

India is now the world's most populous country, recently outstripping China of that title. Therefore, it goes to reason that India also has the largest number of people suffering from Sleep Apnea of any country. It says that men are at higher risk than women. This statement, while perhaps true, will...

Re: Dream Station 2 - flimsy clips on the tank and tank lid

I've had the DS2 about two years now. Have not had broken tabs on the tank lid, however I did buy a spare in the event it ever should happen. About $19 with free shipping on Amazon. Cheap insurance to have a spare as the machine is dead in the 'water' if the tank lid breaks. Interestingly Medicare/...

Senator Calls for DOJ Action Against Philips for Keeping CPAP Machine Complaints Secret

Since this is a call on DOJ (not congress), it could happen despite congressional disarray.

In any case, I can't see Philips surviving long-term as a supplier of medical devices after this debacle.

Re: Anyone able to sleep on your back with your machine?

I'm not clear why the original poster is using a cervical collar. It's possible that the underlying condition is causing a problem.

Anyhow, you generally will need a higher pressure on your back than on your side. I was titrated on my back, so that's how I sleep.

Try turning on the machine several minutes before you go to bed and put on the mask.

Review of the DreamStation 2 machine

If this was already posted, I apologize. I was not able to find anything on this subject on this forum. I got a DreamStation 2 as a replacement for my DreamStation 1 about two years ago. I never noticed an issue with particles or odors, but I stopped using the machine when I heard of the recall, usi...
