Re: turn off EPR?
I have not stayed on it more than a minute or so, so I do not have data of the effects or anything, but the C-flex (Respironics' equivalent of EPR) on my machines makes it feel like I'm not getting the right/usual amount of that back-pressure/resistance that I have come to love so much. Granted, I s...

Re: Firefighter new to cpap, in need of some help.
Another thought - We work 24 on and 48 off. I also work a secondary job riding the ambulance, which entails one additional night a week away from home. Especially in my situation with two other places I spend the night, I have found that it was well worth the investment for me to acquire additional ...

Re: Firefighter new to cpap, in need of some help.
I am a firefighter/paramedic for the past 17 years and have been on CPAP since September 2006. My pressure started at 9 but I have settled into 11 for the past couple of years and found it to work really well for me (AHI usually 2 or 3 at highest). I was blessed in that I got accustomed to CPAP almo...

Re: Is CPAP AUCTION CLOSED????
I am just finding this out. While I enjoy the Resmed Quattro immensely, this has got me thinking about trying out one of the kinds that are still sold on cpapauction.com. Does anyone have any favorite FFM that are not Resmed?

Re: Poll: Senitive/Hyperarousable Sleepers
I checked "always slept soundly and still do." When I first started at the Fire Department, I woke (WIDE awake) every time the buzzer went off (you hear it if it goes off for ANY of our eight stations). But after a few weeks, I got to the point where I would not "consciously" wake up unless I heard ...

Re: Buying online or use a DME – help me make a decision please
If anyone doesn't mind sharing, I'd love to know how much you paid for the equipment you got when it's all said and done, DME or Online/Insurance. Thanks. I was diagnosed and started PAP therapy in September 2006. I used the DME ran by the same Dr's office that I had my PSG done (I figured it would...

Re: salt in humidifier for congestion
My brother-in-law, who I got a CPAP unit for about a year ago, was told by his girlfriend's father (who uses CPAP) that he ought to put a cough drop in his tank when he is congested. I advised him he should not put anything in his humidifier tank but pure distilled water (with the tap exception if h...

Re: CPAP Use in Emergency Medical Services
Hi ycartf Very interesting information. Is the complete setup available, or did you put it together yourself? Would this be effective for a laryngospasm attack, where breathing is cut off because the throat is closed, and not opening. (I mean for emergency use at home). And I have always wanted to ...

CPAP Use in Emergency Medical Services
Hi everyone. I thought this information might be interesting to a lot of folks on this forum. In the last few months, we have started using CPAP in the Alabama EMS System I work in (it may have been in use for a while in other states). We use it for just about any respiratory-related distress a pati...

Re: any advice how to train urself to side sleep??!!
I have seen the suggestions of tennis ball sewed into a shirt, but since I hate sleeping with a shirt on, I took a "fanny pack" and crammed as many tennis balls into it as it would hold (6). I buckle this around my chest and it keeps me from sleeping on my back. With only side-sleeping, I have (in t...

Re: distilled water
While you "can" use any clean water (if you "have to"), distilled is best. It is free of contaminants, minerals, etc. that can foul up your humidifier water chamber. It is very inexpensive and is a cheap way to make sure you get the longest life out of your chamber, along with the cleanest vapors in...

Re: Hole In Roof
I can see from the numerous posts that we have members on both sides of the fence, with conflicting opinions. While I consider myself to be "against" this intrusion into yet another facet of my life by government, I DO see validity in some of both sides' arguments and points. Working as a paramedic,...

First night with no events - AHI=0
Last night was the first time (that I know of according to my data) that I had absolutely no events. I had one snore and a leak rate that was very good (normal here lately), but no apneas or hypopneas. My normal AHI has been staying around 1 or less lately, since I started wearing a fanny pack with ...

Re: Quattro Mask: Anyone else having seal problems (brand new se
When I first got on the hose in September 2006, I was issued an UMFFM and I thought it was the cat's meow. Then I tried the Quattro about 15 months ago, and have been using it ever since (UMFFM backup now). While I will agree that I like the cushion setup on the UMFFM better, what with the complete ...
