Re: Nasal pillow mask and pressure?

Pillows should last longer than 6 weeks - mine have! What can happen is that the headgear straps stretch a bit, so the seal is not like it used to be. Try tightening them a bit, and you may find the leaks improve. Also, make sure the pillows are "squeaky clean" before you put them on - that can aff...

Re: Nasal pillow mask and pressure?

I started out using a nasal pillow mask when I was put on CPAP a little over 2 months ago. Switched to BiPAP a month ago, pressure is 21. It was okay, I slept pretty well with it after getting the correct size determined, although it was never what I would call comfortable. I started having leakage...

Re: Doin' The Happy Dance

I have been using CPAP since last August. My sleep study put me at 63, and my initial titrated pressure (8cm) only brought me down to 14 to 18. After bumping my pressure twice, I have finally had a week with my average AHI at less than 3. I had two nights with no CA events. Now I have to decide whe...

Re: Medicare CPAP reimbursement cut 47% for DMEs

Well, could be they're making up for it in volume. Just got 5 nasal pillows and 10 filters, plus a climateline hose and a mask from my DME on Medicare with supplement. So what they're losing on each one they're making up for in volume *smile*?

Re: Newbie-questions

Thanks all for your support. All events were over 10 seconds. The centrals, were often by themselves, not early on in my sleep cycle, and in one instance, they were clustered together like 7 in a few minutes, several hours into my sleep. I woke up only once in the seven hours, about halfway in betw...

Re: New reason to love my DME

Great to find a good DME, hold onto that one. Mine's not so good...just spent a month wrestling with my DME trying to get supplies, and when I finally got them (after a couple of not so good nights due to mask leakage) they were for the wrong mask. So I ended up driving an hour each way to pick up t...

Re: Test User's Overview of Apnicure's Winx system

With the new machine, it definitely dries out your mouth & tongue. But your mouth can be "open", the front of the appliance helps keep the seal. The tongue is really the critical part. As long as it stays sealed to the top, presumably the benefits are working for you because it's pulled the tongue ...

Re: If you need a free travel PAP-Tag...

I got a free letter from my sleep doctor to use with the airlines that states that this is medical equipment, and I need it. Also printed out a list of the CPAP machines that are approved for airline travel. I figure I'm covered if I need it for air travel. However, when I flew during the summer, th...

Re: How old were you when you got your CPAP?

Why so many late decades? I was 27 when I got my first machine. I was sent out for the study because I had insomnia and my doctor thought I still looked tired even though I was no longer anemic. In my case, it was apparently late onset of sleep apnea. My wife never heard me not breathing at night u...

Re: How old were you when you got your CPAP?

Just about exactly a year ago, when I was 64 years old. Now I've just retired, and Jan. 25 (a couple of days ago) was my 1st year anniversary of using CPAP. My wife was telling me for a while that she would hear me not breathing for a while at night and I should look into it. She had a cousin who di...

Re: Starting out, my charts. A success story

congrats.. At the risk of sounding nasty, getting a leak rate of 0 overnight is probably a walk in the park with pressures as low as his are. I think my ramp level starts higher than that. Keep in mind that with ResMed, the leak rates are supposed to be normalized to the mask type. So 0 doesn't mea...

Re: Windows 8 and Software

Just saw this thread when thinking about upgrading my Windows 7 system to Windows 8. Here's where the resscan data is for Windows 7:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ResMed\ResScan3\Patients\<patient name>

The reason that I know this is that I have it specifically backed up *smile*.

Re: Oral appliance user -- should i go to cpap??

When I asked about hem, my sleep doctor said that dental/oral devices were effective in about 30% of cases. That's a much lower figure than you were quoted. That would (and did) send me to a cpap machine.

Re: Sleeping with a partner who wears CPAP

As kteague and Patrissimo both said, cpap definitely affects spouses and partners and your needs count too. I don't think you sound like a bad person, but I do think you sound like a very young person. If you love this man and cherish the relationship then I hope you and he can work out the challen...
