Re: Auxiliary Power for Machine?

If it worries you about power failure right now...get a power outage alarm to plug into the electric socket next to the cpap plug. That way if the power fails the alarm will wake you up for sure unless you are deaf. Something like this is inexpensive and will get you by until you decide what you wa...

Thank you! I figured there's an instinctive response where the body knows how to keep breathing - it helped to hear a confirmation

Auxiliary Power for Machine?

A couple days ago, some of the power outlets in my apartment randomly stopped working (I hope the maintenance guys can fix them and tell me why it happened later today). Thankfully the CPAP was not plugged into one of them. If one is using a nasal mask, is there a risk of suffocating with this kind ...

Re: First night on CPAP Nasal Pillows - failed -help please.

Hi Rodea, Have you tried a nasal mask? I just switched from Airfit P10 to the Wisp (which fits over the nose and rests softly against the face). It's made a good difference- less breathing-through-straws feeling, less claustrophobic. Maybe that's something to try out? It might also help to turn off ...

Improvements!

After 5 days of the APAP, it's getting easier to use. I'm noticing an increase in alertness and energy level during the daytime, which is awesome! Some tweaks that helped (thanks to the experienced people on this forum): - Ayr nasal gel around and just inside the nostrils for the nasal pillows - A h...

Re: APAP Newbie

I thought I had CFS until I found out that I had a severe case of OSA. CPAP has changed my life - it wasn't instant, but I have far more energy now than I did 10 years ago. That's really good to hear! Knowing that it will be possible to feel better over time makes it easier to stick with the treatm...

Re: APAP Newbie

I find that often with the cpap machine and its humidity I might go to bed with a tiny bit of congestion and wake up breathing far better than when I went to bed. But then a hot shower also makes me breathe better. I have done the "turn it down thing" and also have forgot to fill the water chamber ...

Re: APAP Newbie

Humidity setting at 2 to 3 on the PR S1 machine isn't a very high humidity delivery unless you are using a heated hose with it. Have you been okay with these settings so far? How's the congestion now? Or is this the first night? I know Mr England does well with his low settings but he isn't using t...

Re: APAP Newbie

Couple of things to try. Maybe your congestion could be lessened with less humidity - try it for a night or two. Also when you lie down start by breathing through your mouth until you are comfy, then close your mouth and take 10-12 deep breaths through your nose and see if your nose actually clears...

Re: APAP Newbie

Update for anyone who is curious: I got fitted with the AirFit P10 nasal pillow mask. Proves that things can change after the first impression! I tried a full face mask, but it was the least comfortable of all types I've tried. There was an over-the-nose type mask that was ok, but the nasal pillows ...

Re: APAP Newbie

O, is it the one in your signature? It sounds like a good type of mask for the situation - thank you for letting me know about it! When my APAP arrives on Monday, I'm planning to ask for a couple different masks to keep, to give each a thorough test. Hopefully they'll have the hybrid available, but ...

Re: APAP Newbie

I'm kind of nervous, because I got to try nasal pillows and a nose mask before my in-lab study, and it wasn't a comfortable feeling... It felt like the air was flowing too fast and not letting me exhale fully, especially with the nasal pillows. The nose mask worked better, but then I felt the urge ...

Re: Especially for newly diagnosed - Dealing with Change

Thank you for this post! I've been going through the denial phase recently - thinking maybe the doctor confused my results with someone else's, or maybe some miraculous new procedure will become available soon to make the condition go away. It will take time to deal with the change, and I'm just try...
