Goodbye (and good riddance) Philips/Repironics

I don't expect Philips/Respironics to have even a token presence in the US much longer. This means that it's questionable whether replacement parts will remain available. Replacement parts include water tanks, heated hoses (though "standard" hoses will fit), and filters (reusable and disposable). Ad...

Safety of Dream Station II

I am currently using a Dream Station II, which I received as a replacement for my Dream Station I. I am planning to replace this soon, but I want to know if it's considered safe in the meanwhile. As an aside, I never had any issues with the Dream Station I, which I found superior in design to the Dr...

Re: Philips discontinues many products

According to this Dream Station 2 is also discontinued (in the US). In fact, all xPAP machines are being discontinued in the US (according to this). Supposedly, they will continue to support the recall. In any case, many - including myself - said that Philips (or at least the medical device division...

Re: Smoker? Don't smoke around your CPAP!

My parents were 3 pack a day smokers. My dad thankfully quit when I was 10 but my mom persisted much longer, claiming they would pry her last cigarette out of her cold, dead hand. I hated their smoking, and I was always sick. Turns out I have cough variant asthma, and one of my worst triggers--surp...

I live in a high tax city, but they allow you to use the city dump for free.

Re: Put it in the landfill??

First of all, with very few exceptions, any mask can be used with any machine. You don't need to change your mask!

Re: Philips Dreamstation 2.

If you don't wish to keep this machine as a "backup," you can donate it to the American Sleep Apnea Association. They will see to it that it gets to a patient that does not have to means to obtain one himself/herself. I was never able to donate an old machine because - by the time I finished with th...

Re: Insurance

To the original poster:

Assuming you take "regular" Medicare, they will pay for a sleep doc, sleep tests, and a new CPAP every five years. Of course, it's subject to the usual deductibles and copays.

Re: Dreamstation 2 won't turn on

The implication of the original posting is that the machine can be used as long as it's turned on and off manually. Assuming that's correct, he does not have an emergency on his hands.

Re: I'm newbie and I have decided to go on my own

Just an aside. If you buy a machine, in the US, Canada, or Mexico, you will still be able to use it in Europe even though the voltage and frequency are different. You will need a European plug or adapter (a "shape changer"), but not a converter ("a voltage or frequency changer").

Re: Sour Body Oder since I started with CPAP

Here's another possibility.

Perhaps CPAP has "fixed" your sense of smell, and you're smelling an odor that's really been there all the time!

Re: Travelling to Bangladesh

Bangladesh electricity is 220 volts - 50 hz, your CPAP will run on that without any special converter. You will need an adapter (a plug-shape changer), not a converter (a voltage/frequency changer). The same for you telephone charger and most likely also for any electric toothbrush that you might be...

Re: Sour Body Oder since I started with CPAP

Since your wife is the person complaining of the odor, ask her to smell the machine to see if it's the source of the odor.

The obvious thing to try is to reposition the machine, perhaps even slightly. Also, try putting a towel under it.

Re: Reason for Vent Holes?

Yes, you need the vent holes for CO 2 . However, I do find them annoying. I would want an option to put a hose on the exhaust, and allow it to vent far away. The exhaust can create an issue with noise, temperature, and air blowing in an uncomfortable way. The noise was especially bad with the first ...
