Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Occasional visitor Captain Midnight here, and I'm highly interested in what I'll learn from this thread. CG asks if anyone here understands basic toxicology, and quotes Paracelsus ... The dose make the poison. Well, I happen to have an acquaintance with the science of Toxicology, and I agree with yo...

Re: Oropharyngeal Exercises for Apnea Symptom Reduction
I noticed positive effects after a week or two. My AHI went down, and rapidly so. It's now averaging about half of what it was for several years. And, I reduced the lower pressure threshold for my APAP by a half an inch of H2O. As a confounder, I've since begun taking melatonin each evening. Not int...

Re: what to do when your cpap breaks?
This happened to me while visiting relatives over Christmas last year. My habit was to keep my older apap as a spare, and to use it for travel. Ha! My older pap went paws up, I was in a faraway city and state, and Christmas was 2 days away. I was able to get a new travel apap from cpap.com (on sale)...

Oropharyngeal Exercises for Apnea Symptom Reduction
Hi Folks! Occasional visitor Captain Midnight here to share an approach that appears to work for me to lower my OSA symptoms. For some brief background, as with many of us hereabouts, I sometimes get a blog post from cpap.com and the the title of the one I received in September got my attention... 5...

Re: MeRT - Treatment to Reset Brain
Certainly hope this MeRT treatment ends up holding as much promise as it sounds in so many arenas, including sleep disorders. I've always felt that after long term disordered sleep the brain has to relearn how to sleep. Maybe this is the reset button those with intractable insomnia need. Hmmm, now ...

Re: Nervous about swapping to Resmed from Philips
Just switched from the Dreamstation auto to Airsense10 AutoSet about a week ago. My experience has been nothing but positive. I had been using Philips machines since 2014. With the Dreamstation auto my settings were 12-20 and the pressure would always go walking throughout the night to about 18. My...

Re: Rumors?
Perhaps some perspective might help. I was a happy PR (nee Respironics) papper for over a decade, and over several machines. Then, changing from my previous insurance to Medicare, I found myself getting an Airsense 10. I do love it, even more than my previous PR machines (which were just fine). Bott...

Re: Tips for surviving a camping trip without machine
I don't want to scare you (okay, I do) but I had an acquaintance who (about 8 years ago) left to visit relatives over a Christmas break (and he left his xpap at home). He came back in a coffin. Not the expected outcome, of course. However, it's a sad event that I keep in mind whenever, and wherever ...

Re: Remembering dreams
Does remembering any dreams, however 'peaceful' vs violent or vivid pretesting ones, mean you are not getting optimal therapy on Cpap? http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=3524 Den . Den, thanks for recalling a most informative post from a good and different time in this forum. -- Tom

Re: Sleeping pills
CG writes... (Some people, including me, actually find listening to their breathing and the sound of the machine to be relaxing.) And, I find the breathing sounds similar to ocean surf sounds, quite relaxing. My only issue is that my new autoset machine is ... too quiet. Regarding sleeping pills, I ...

Re: Does Filter Type Affect AHI?
Excellent questions, and I have a few observations from 12 years of xpappery. When I was using the PR machines, I found a slightly lower, but consistently so, AHI when I left out the foam filter. Yes, I know that the machines are made to compensate; and, I did try different pressure ranges. Also, I ...

i never got through the whole night with the mask on You are destroying your brain and body by not using CPAP the whole night. I’m also interested in alternative medicine. Re: About 70 percent of people who use CPAP find it very effective
Interesting article, thanks for posting. I suspect that many of the folks who can't tolerate pappian therapy are given either the wrong pressures or the wrong mask at the outset. I also think that many are poorly motivated and do not understand the consequences of untreated OSA. From my own experien...
