Call For Questions: Respironics Remstar Series

Post by forumadmin » Tue Nov 30, 2004 12:00 pm

Howdy cpaptalk'ers!

Cpaptalk.com is excited to announce our coming interview with Respironics and their soon to be released Respironics Remstar Auto with C-Flex as well as their soon to be released Respironics Remstar Pro 2 with C-Flex. Here is your chance to ask questions directly to the Product Managers! Shawn Trautman oversees the Auto and Jeff Meglin oversees the Pro 2.

We will be accepting C-Flex, Remstar Auto with C-Flex, and Remstar Pro 2 with C-Flex related cpaptalk user questions for the next week and will extend the deadline for questions as needed. We will compile your questions, add a few of our own, and send them off!

After we hear back from Respironics, we will post their reply, as well as some sneek peek product pictures and information!

We invite you to take advantage of this unique forum.

We look forward to many questions!

Q: RE: Remstar Auto w/cflex

- Could this machine be used to give some relief to bipap users with a lower AHI and a higher titrated pressure.

- What is the relative decrease in pressure during the cflex phase (exhalation) of operation?

- Is this machine compatable with all mask/nasal interfaces? If not, what interfaces will it not work with?

- Have any studies been done to see if the reduced exhalation pressure of cflex lowers the incidence of mouth leaks?

- Is Respironics doing anything to encourage broadening of the indications for use of an auto adjusting cpap so that more people can benefit from the enhanced features of an auto-pap?

- Is there a firmware upgrade available to add cflex to existing Remstar autos?

What type of comments did you receive from patients during the clinical trials? Is there a common theme to thier opinions?

Respironics claims that people who use C-flex sleep an hour longer than those who don't use C-flex. Can they tell us how to get a copy of that study or where there is a link posted for it?

Posting WillSucceed's Questions From Another Thread

Post by forumadmin » Wed Dec 01, 2004 9:53 am

WillSucceed Asks:

QUESTIONS:

1) Given that the RemStar Auto will not know the difference between a central apnea and an obstructive apnea, at what pressure will the machine max out? (ResMed Spirit will not go above 10 cm to treat a detected apnea).

2) Will the RemStar Auto have any onboard firmware or add-on features such at pulse and/or oximetry measurement and recording? (Simialr to ResMed Spirit)

3) Will the RemStar Auto allow any tweaking of treatment parameters like the PB 420E does? (inspiration flow limitation settings / changing default settings / etc.)

4) Will the RemStar Auto be calibrated to detect/accept use of the Respironics Comfort-Lite nasal pillow interface?

5) Will wearing a nasal pillow interface (Comfort-Lite or other nasal pillow system) 'throw-off' the RemStar Auto and alter treatment efficacy in any way? If so, will there be any way for the user to input the type of interface being used so that the RemStar Auto can optimize treatment based on the interface used?

6) Will the RemStar Auto allow the user to get treatment information directly from the LCD screen (like the ResMed Spirit does) or will the user be obligated to purchase software and a SmartCard reader?

Wow,

These are great questions. It just goes to show, we are better as a community than on our own.

I am very very senstive to noise coming from both the mask and machine.

1. How does the noise level of the new Remstar compare to the other models, is it any quieter? If so, by how much?

2. Has the onboard user/DME LCD display been improved to allow viewing of one's AI/AHI index for the previous night like the Resmed Autoset Spirit without having to download the data?

Will the warranty be the same as the Remstar Auto without the Cflex?

Why doesn't the REMstar Auto use pressure sensor tubing as the Puritan Bennett and Resmed machines do? Is the Auto as accurate without one?

bp

Thanks!

As a service rep in this industry, I must thank you for developing an auto-titrating CPAP with CFLEX! Next to a gel full face mask, it is the most frequently asked-for product my customers request!

Will the report that the Remstar Auto with Cflex generates with Encore Pro note that you are using a specific cflex setting?
