Throat is growing wider and wider....

Post by bmc23 » Sun Jul 30, 2017 5:19 pm

Anyone experience the feeling like your throat is closing up.... I'm approaching 3 years on bipap w/02 piggybacked. And while I was kicking and screaming 3 years ago I am very responsible to my nightly therapy. I feel like my neck is growing to width of my shoulders. I now sleep with a travel pillow turned sideways so I can't rest my chin down because I cut off airways I guess and desat pretty quickly. I have 2 pulmonary docs in Jersey and Florida and when I explain this to them they say.... great you've found a solution. Whaaaaaaaat!!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I try to stretch my neck up so I don't feel like I am being choked.

invest $10 in a cheap foam, cervical collar.

I have one and it does work. It is hot and some nights it is uncomfortable because of the heat.

As always you've taught me a lot even made me smile.... I have a neck as good as any football player LOL & I think I'll look into the collar. Actually, the travel pillow is comfy most nites. I just thought I might be blowing up my airways with the pressure of both machines. I may have been known to self adjust the bipap.... just a little. Now I know another thing to accept... Thanks

I prefer this firm foam cervical collar - https://www.walmart.com/ip/DMI-Universa ... e/23057188

I wear it every night. It has allowed a lower CPAP pressure and prevents my jaw from dropping.

Good luck.
