Best way to clean tube and mask to kill germs etc.
Hey guys.
I’ve been trying google this subject and of course coming up with a lot of different options.
So, what household methods are the best:
- vinegar
- peroxide
- antibacterial soap
- dish soap
- anything else?
Thanks bunch.

The germs are your own...tube needs no cleaning and dish soap or dishwashing detergent works fine for masks. You will get lots of different opinions here also.

Getting used machine. Unfortunately won’t have new tube for couple of days (shipping time). As gross as it seems, I would like to try clean the current tube from the used machine and use it for few days till the new one gets here.

Wash it with soap and water a few hours before bedtime. Rinse a couple of times. Hang it to drip excess water out. When you get ready for bed, there will still be some moisture in the hose. Unless you are running the hose in an overhead hanger, this is not a problem. The air blowing through will evaporate the moisture and it will be harmless (Maybe even helpful.) to breathe.cub4bearin wrote:Getting used machine. Soap - something mild and not too perfumey.

The dude you got that used machine from - did he die of TB or AIDS?

Soak hose in 50/50 vinegar and water for an hour, then rinse and let dry. Wash the he'll out of the mask with dish soap, rinse, and soak that in the vinegar / water solution for an hour too. Rinse well to eliminate vinegar smell. They should be clean enough.

ResMed recommends the use of 25% vinegar solution (1 cup vinegar to three cups water). Soak your equipment for 20 minutes and rinse well with warm water. Let equipment air dry out of direct sunlight.

For me, I've never "cleaned" my hose (still using the same one I started with in 2005).
Every few years, I fill the hose with hot water to check for leaks. Have never found any, so I keep using it.
For mask seals, I use "Dawn" dishwashing liquid (original blue) or "Coast" (bar) hand soap.
I usually toss the headgear in with a load of laundry (warm or cool water - "All" brand laundry soap) but have also used a solution of "Dawn" in a plastic container of water.
Twice a month, I rinse out my foam (reusable) air intake filter with hot water, squeeze out the remainder of the moisture with a clean towel and let it air-dry for awhile. Then put it back in the machine.
I've almost always used distilled water (if not available, I use filtered water) and can count on one hand the number of times I've actually "cleaned" the HH tank in nearly 13 years. I don't use heated humidity, so there is virtually nothing to clean out of the tank.
Have never used vinegar, peroxide or any other things like that.

Thanks everyone. Bought some very mild detergent without dyes perfumes etc. washed everything. Then made vinegar-water solution and soak it for 2-3 minutes, rinsed and let it dried.
Everything works perfect. The only thing, I was unable to do, is set the account with resmed due to serial number being used already. Sent them email of their is a chance to resign it me now.

Better option, use the Sleepyhead software, beats the Resmed option. Jim

I confuse easily. I am an old guy. But why should I clean my tube face mask. I am on my fifth year and have never cleaned either. I do change my face mask every 4 to 6 months. I have not been sick for the whole time I have been on this machine. How would my life be better if I cleaned, or is my lack of cleaning responsible for this horrible cold spell?

Yes, climate change, the economy, the new tax bill, threat of nuclear war... it's all YOUR fault!lastlib wrote: is my lack of cleaning responsible for this horrible cold spell?
