Under Medicare prescribed and received from DME Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset in November 2017. Satisfactory AHI, 1.0 or less, but marginal sleep quality. Self purchased a used Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto. Using similar settings sleep quality dramatically improved. Is it possible to have Medicare, with a new physician's Rx, upgrade my Airsense to an
Aircurve? Thanks for your comments.

Re: Medicare Machine Upgrade
Generally Medicare only allows a new machine only every 5 years. You would need to convince your sleep doctor that you FAILED treatment on CPAP and get a new prescription for BiPAP. You would be required to pay the 13-month rental fee on the new machine.
What is wrong with the used one you bought? If it is working fine, what would be the reason to buy a new one?

If your machine is working for you, why change to anything else? I would just keep using what you're using.

Re: Medicare Machine Upgrade
If you want Medicare to pay for a new bi-level machine, you will need the doctor to state you do not tolerate treatment with a CPAP machine. If Medicare accepts the doctor's statement, you Wil need to go through another 13 month rent to own contract. If you have not had your machine for 13 months, it will get returned to the DME.

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.
Re: Medicare Machine Upgrade
As already mentioned, you need to get the doc to do the paperwork that indicates you have improved sleep with the more expensive item. You are still under rental, so should be able to switch, but the 13 months will start again.

Re: Medicare Machine Upgrade
To keep one as a back up unit. In a pinch I would consider the Autoset 10 since it did lower the AHI to 1. If approved for a new one I would sell the first machine, unless it was still under contract, but that is given.CPAPforever wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 7:22 amWhat is wrong with the used one you bought?
