new mask
new mask
Hello fellow CPAP peoples. I am going to be going to be switching masks again soon as I just recently had a appointment and it was reccomended that I try a different mask. So far Ive had Resmed Mirage FX Nasal mask and a Airfit P10 pillow mask. Any thoughts on what I should try next? When I sleep im mostly on my back but will turn side to side from time to time. I am not a mouth breather and I have been doing well and have been compliant. I was considering leaving the pillow masks behind and going back to a nose mask. There was one in the room that the doctor saw me in but I forgot what it was called. Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: new mask
If you want to try a nasal mask, go with a top seller from this list of nasal masks - https://www.cpap.com/plp/nasal-cpap-masks/ZT0yNjQ
Re: new mask
Are you trying different masks to find "the one?" I went through probably 8 masks in the beginning but have settled on the Dreamwear cushions. Nothing on or in my nose. Just a little cushion under it. Honestly, the Dreamwear has made my CPAP life pretty wonderful. Best wishes to you.

Re: new mask
Well the Mirage FX which I started with was nice but then I started having skin issues so then I went to the pillow mask the p10 and have been having leak issues alot more than normal. so now Im trying to hopefully get fitted with something where my leaks would be greatly reduced . so I guess you could say I haven't found the right one yet even though ive been on cpap since 2013.

Re: new mask
Is the reason for the leaks on the P10 because you move around and the mask/hose gets pulled away from your nose? I found that can be helped by attaching the hose to your shirt (if you wear one) or pillow case so that the hose stays put better. I put together a nifty solution that doesn't take too much engineering:

It may help you as well. I may have some left over so if you're interested PM me and I'll dig through my stuff.

Re: new mask
hmm thats interesting but a order has all ready been sent by my doctor to the dme for me to get a different mask. I do move around some in my sleep but I don't think thats the issue.

Re: new mask
I wonder if any of you with nasal mask experience have narrow nostrils. I had trouble trying the nasal masks. My sleep center mask fitter told me a person needed a "more substantial nose" to get a pillow to fit without leaking. But she seemed in a hurry so maybe she was the problem?

Yeah, she probably had another appointment waiting and threw out something to get you out of there.

Re: new mask
I maybe mistaken but there maybe a difference in the male and female nose. I know that as a almost 44 year old male my nose is a little bit bigger than most female noses that I can tell.

Years ago I had surgery and the surgeon's notes referred to me as a, "well nourished female." Never forgot it!

It just goes to say not every bodies nose is the same and not every ones mask experience or mask needs are the same.
