Can anyone experienced give me their opinion. Are these central apneas real? (Don't mind the date.... I did a retarded mistake when I was changing the settings).
Should take these seriously or discard them as basically as false flags?
I also have another question. My father also has began using his CPAP, after my incessant insistence. But according to him he's experiencing choking during sleep when using the machine. Is that because of central sleep apnea, or due to adjustment period? His AHI according to the machine is 6.6, he wakes up choking, but without headaches.
Central apneas real? And choking during sleep?

8 CA's are nothing to be concerned about at all.
Without knowing anything about your father, such as pressure settings for what prescription #'s, it's impossible to advise.

I haven't been able to convince him to go to a doctor and get a remittal to sleep specialist . He was diagnosed in 2000-2001 and did undergo a cpap trial. But dropped the treatment since he wasn't able to tolerate the cool air. I've been more proactive in trying to get his condition treated.Julie wrote:8 CA's are nothing to be concerned about at all.

His pressure settings are 9 to 16 and his ahi 6.6 . Based on his own the machine's data recording. His apnea is 28 at pressure setting of 4. So it's mostly trial and error and experimentation. But I do think I've made some progress. His minimal pressure should probably be around 10 or more. But he's suffering from awakenings and choking. Any hints on what to do? Should I get an SD card for his machine?

How does his mask fit - is he leaking therapy air out of his mouth? Can you use SH software with his machine? Is he lying on his back vs sides? Too many variables to guess at and no knowledge of his overall medical status... could he be having GERD?

Waking up choking sounds like it might be reflux which can be a GI problem or because of apnea. He needs to see his doctor.

Double Ditto on Janknitz's advice and add to that regarding centrals are something to investigate. Choking can also be from oxygen desaturation from the central events and signaling heart problems. I woke up unable to breathe, choking when I had a 90% blockage in a right coronary artery last year. It took the flu and an ambulance ride to get me to the right doctor.Janknitz wrote:Waking up choking sounds like it might be reflux which can be a GI problem or because of apnea.
