Study for New Sleep Apnea Treatment Looking for Participants

Post by MarylandCPAPer » Thu Oct 06, 2016 12:23 am

For anyone with moderate or severe sleep apnea who may want to participate in a study for a non-CPAP treatment, check out:
http://www.thnstudy.com/

I don't know anything about the study other than the information on that page. I am not affiliated with the institutions doing the study. The information just popped up in my Facebook news feed. It appears that they are particularly looking for people who have not tolerated CPAP treatment. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore is among the many locations listed.

That is effectively spam... and it's for non-Cpap therapy on a Cpap forum... it would be best if you deleted it (I haven't because you're a longstanding member who may have forgotten about the spam rules). They can call it a 'study' but in fact they're pushing their own product.

Decided to simply rewrite what I had written with a line since I didn't want to report it as spam.

You know, I read it almost first thing after waking up and looking in here, and because I saw that a company was sponsoring the study, decided (too fast) that it had to be spam, so you were right in saying I was wrong!

The fact that a company is involved in a clinical trial is not an indicator of a spam, hoax, or other dubious clinical trial. In fact, virtually all clinical trials have their genesis in a company's attempt to bring a new treatment modality, drug, or medical device to market. For more detailed information on this particular study and the protocol under which it is operating can be found at https://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT02263859
That is not to say that it is a cure for sleep apnea, but rather an alternative for those who have failed xPAP therapy or who don't tolerate it for various reasons. In short, this is a legitimate clinical trial subject to strictures of and controlled by the FDA.
