It is very easy to forget what you were going to ask when you see a doctor etc..

It is wise to always to create a question list and take it with you. Not only do you not forget the questions but the details of the question should be on the list.

Excellent advice. I do this with both my own appointments and my vet appointments. I hate getting home and realizing that I forgot to ask something. So much easier to make a list.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I'm glad you got your results, but disappointed you still have to wait. You've gotten some very good advice so far.

Get your machine and then use the people here to help you fine tune it. Hopefully they set the machine properly for you, but I wouldn't bank on it. The people here can help you get into the menus and get it set on what works for you.

Anxious to see what you come home with and how it's set. I'll be watching.

Honestly I get that it doesn't quite work this way in Canada, but I ended up threatening my insurance company with a class action law suit before they finally gave me the machine. THey claimed they couldn't do it until they saw my interview papers. I told them they were risking life and limb for a completely unnecessary paper when the sleep study had all the results they truly needed. sorry, this reminded me of that and I just had to get it off my chest.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

Definitely need to start doing this. Especially with the Sleep Apnea affecting my mind

I knew I could get it set up with all of you to help but they were less convinced

I can see on my prescription that they will set it to Min 7 max 14. I'll give that a go and see how it feels. Thankfully, as you pointed out, there are tons of people here able to help and so I am fully confident and fully committed to being clompiant and find the right settings to help me. Not giving up when it gets tough or uncomfortable.

As long as I tackle it with the right attitude and I've got this forum I'm sure I can make it work regardless of what they may give me. However I will be asking for a Resmed Airsense 10 autoset. We will see.

The beaurocracy of this time and age is appalling.

i guess i could sue them to get it
but is it worth the trouble and expense
It's so weird to me that they would deny someone their results. Shouldnt we all have a right to see whats wrong with us? What a world.

When I take a list to my doctor, he gloms onto it right away, and goes right down the list.

HIPPA law does not apply in Canada. I'm not sure what the law here says regarding sleep reports but I've always been given mine for what they're worth which, to be honest, usually isn't much. Lots of computer generated boilerplate with a few bits of relevant data sprinkled in by the sleep tech. Seems that Quebec has a more reasonable stance on APAP machines than Ontario. I'm in Toronto and the only way I could get an APAP machine was to have my doctor prescribe the "AutoSet for Her" as it shares the same code with the AirSense Elite (CPAP), then pay the difference. Had I not had been able to figure out the system and persuade my doctor to write the prescription for the AutoSet for Her I would not have been able to get an APAP machine at all. OHIP does not allow doctors to prescribe the "best technology available" even for patients who are willing to pay for it. The medical system here is very bureaucratic although I'm not sure the US is any better in this regard.

You have an APAP and the will to get it working. You're all set.
Good luck.

Maybe we have the same sleep doctor. No wait ..... your doctor could be reasoned with.

However, as it turns out, they did not book enough time for the tech (or whomever) to show me how to use the apap therefore I must wait until tuesday to start treatment. Lord, give me patience.
I'm hoping you get set up with your machine today and all goes well with your first night.

I'm in Ontario as well and I also had a very long delay in getting results when initially tested. So long in fact that I just bought my own machine (the one listed in the profile) and started self treating ..... it took months for me to see the specialist and then it took months to get a titration booked. My back up machine (Resmed Airsense 10 Elite) is the one I was finally prescribed.

A bit off topic, but what really baffles me is what appears to be a reluctance in Ontario (not other provinces) to use available Home Sleep Tests as a way of reducing the long wait times for people who urgently need diagnosis and treatment.

Recently I read this announcement, for example: http://business.financialpost.com/entrepreneur/bresotec

So, Ontario had to find a local company that devised a brand new "home sleep test", roll it out at "select clinics" over several years when something like ApneaLink is already tried and tested and available in other Canadian provinces? Seriously, how does this serve the thousands on long wait lists in Ontario?

Yeah that's crazy to me. Sure QC didnt cover the cost of the Home Sleep Test but it only cost me something around 150 to do it. Results took 6 weeks and im in the office waiting to get the machine/mask right now. I didn't realise ontario didnt recognise the home sleep test. Thats just crazy to me.
