Nose ring?

Post by jennmary » Sun May 13, 2018 8:25 pm

Ok. Might be a weird question....but here goes.

I have been on CPAP for 12 years. No issues. Currently thrilled with my cpap and my data.

I am almost 38 and at a point in my life where I have either stopped giving a shit or am starting a midlife crisis. Not sure which.

I want a nose piercing. Small stud. I use nasal pillow masks in general. Full face masks only when I am so sick that I can't breath through my nose.

Anyone with a nose piercing? Am I going to have issues with nasal pillows?

If you are serious, you can go ahead and see what happens.
Hardware can always be popped out at night.
One caution: be particularly careful about infection.
OSA coexists with numerous conditions that complicate healing/infections.

Maybe some day they will make a XPAP that will bolt up to where the holes are. Jimj

It actually crossed my mind that magnets under the skin might eliminate headgear.
I wonder what effect they might have on psychosis . . .

I seem to remember several snake oil salesmen in the past that were touting the benefits of magnetism for health reasons. Who knows, it might just work.

If you could find the area where your airway was closing off, magnets could be implanted in the tissue, (like poled repel) so the tissue would be repelled by the fields holding the area open. Kind of like a stent but not blocking the area or clogging. Jim

If the piercing is small, then any venting/leaking of the therapy pressure through it should likewise be small. The rest would likely depend on the placement of the jewelry and whether you wore it to bed.

This question comes up from time to time, for example: viewtopic/t62468/Nose-Piercing-with-Bipap-mask.html ; viewtopic/t76685/Piercings.html

MAGNETS--several applications come to mind.
I just found a solid, unfinished copper chain bracelet in my late MIL's things.
Remember green wrists in the 60's?
Update to the 21st century:
What about the magnetic bracelet now being used for reversible GERD surgery?

My own personal opinion is anyone who believes they don't already have enough holes in their bodies, may need a different kind of doctor.
Our bodies were designed by "someone " smarter than most of us. If they thought we needed more holes, we would already have them.

My personal opinion is that people of all cultures and life choices may find help at an internationally reachable forum on a medical topic.

The first I heard of nose rings was from reading an ancient holy book.--Genesis 24:22, 30, 47.

And my body still bears a scar or two from holes I received in my younger years after trips through the air over the handlebars of two-wheeled transportation, similar to the depictions in some avatars around here.

Just sayin'.

I would have never had my ears pierced, but I had them done in order to embrace my husband's culture--and accept the pair of traditional earrings my MIL brought me
from Ukraine. When I wear them, I feel close to her, and celebrate her indomitable spirit.

If that someone thought we needed clothes we would have been born with them. If they thought we needed to have our hair short then it simply would not grow. If they thought we needed to fly we would have been born with wings....better stay off airplanes.

I did not ask for your religious views and I certainly did not ask for your opinion on my body or how I choose to adorn it. If you are unable to keep those kinds of opinions to yourself then maybe you need to see one of those different kinds of doctors you are talking about. Have a blessed day.

I have taken them all out over the years because of all the MRIs and treatments with the brain tumor it was just a pain to take them out and put back in over and over, week after week.. I use to have 2 in my lip, eyebrow and big gage ones in both ears ...

I see no issue in anyone wanting to get pierced it's all up to them and don't see it causing an issue with any mask... And if it were in the way you could remove it for the night .

My personal opinion . . .
I respect your opinion, even though I do not completely share it.
I am, however, taken aback by young people covering themselves with body art,
oblivious to the effect that time will have on their alterations--
and the immediate effect it will have on their employment options. 8)

Maybe they have one that comes with a tongue piercing, that hooks to the ring to hold your tongue forward. Maybe that could fit a cpap mask to help hold it in place. Jim
