Ugly flurry of OAs
Last night, my wife was finding her N20 mask very uncomfortable. After having the mask off for a couple of hours, she put on her old Airtouch F20 mask. That worked well and felt comfortable but later in the night was a flurry of OAs. She said it felt like air was blowing everywhere -- and I'm sure the mask was leaking all over at 20 cm H2O.
Any thoughts on what might have been going on?
Thanks!

Re: Ugly flurry of OAs
That's the time when REM sleep is most prevalent. That is the deepest sleep. REM stands for "rapid eye movement."
However, my guess is that, in some way, the mask got loosened that last half hour. When the leak rate is high the machine tries to compensate. If the leak rate is excessive, it is not able to fully compensate and statistics become unreliable. Thus, all the stuff in that last half hour is suspect, including the leak rate itself.

Re: Ugly flurry of OAs
As usual, DH is talking out his posterior orifice, the leak rate is a little elevated, but there's absolutely nothing to indicate it's excessive or that there's anything wrong with the readings.
If your wife knew that the mask was leaking, then she wasn't asleep for some, or all of it, and it doesn't really mean anything in relation to sleep apnea.
As to what caused it, maybe transitional apneas, maybe positional, one thing, it wasn't actually CSR, there was no waxing, just recovery breaths and then waining.

@BlueDragon - I'm not qualified to give you any advice, but want to say thanks for showing me a use for cloning a SleepyHead graph! I've seen the option, just shrugged -"OK...", very slick. Thank you!

Re: Ugly flurry of OAs
My wife and I both tried the Air Touch F20 cushions and found we could not control mask leaks once our pressure went over 15 cm. We gave up, and went back to the regular F20 cushion. She is still using the F20, but I have moved on to the Dream Wear full face mask.

Guilty as charged. How did I avoid your using your favorite terms of "idiot" and "moron"? I feel neglected.
