sleep onset apnea and subsequent diagnosis

Post by p3000g@yahoo.com » Tue Jan 22, 2019 1:11 pm

Hello all,

Let me introduce myself. I am a 50 year old male from Canada, recently diagnosed with OSA with an AHI of 19.4 ..

My symptoms started about a year ago, when I would gasp for breath at sleep onset , when trying to sleep ..A lot of internet searches later I could claim that these were sleep onset apneas , not uncommon, but still causing constant insomnia.
My Primary care doctor referred me for a sleep study where I was given the above diagnosis. My sleep report also said that I had mostly hypopneas instead of true apneas(a total of 103 hypopneas and 1 mized apnea in approximately six hours of sleep). I had another CPAP titration study done in November, where I have been prescribed CPAP therapy. I am currently waiting to start my equipment trial .. The questions I have for the pundits are:

1) Since my report says hypopneas only, Is there any way to find out whether they are obstructive or central?
2) Is CPAP the best solution for sleep onset apneas and hypopneas?
3) If CPAP does not work for the sleep onset apneas, what are the alternatives? a bipap ST ?

Thanks again
