In-Line Heat Moisture Exchange (HME) Humidifier For CPAP

Post by Dorian » Wed Jan 30, 2019 6:58 pm

Just thought I would pass this tip along. I purchased a travel CPAP machine which I'm really excited about, but I found the HME did'nt work well with my Wisp nasal mask. The Wisp and its extra tubing segment placed the HME too far away for it to be effective. HME's as you might know trap exhaled air which allows for warmer moist air on inhalation. The solution was to extricate the elbow adapter that connects the mask from the hose and simply insert the adapter into the HME. It's a snug and secure fit. Because the HME is a bit bulky I route the CPAP tubing over my head and secure to my mask with some Coban. This keeps the HME from moving and keeps the mask in place.

Cheers!
