arousals
arousals
OK, I have to learn to sleep on my back for my upcoming cataract surgery, and in spite of my cervical collar, I wake with little mini snores. Is the idea of a cervical collar to put it tightly under your chin so as to keep your jaw up? Seems like I get it too tight if I do that, and make my neck sore. Any hints?

Re: arousals
for ME, i wear it tight to keep my jaw up. haven't had any sores. perhaps put some soft material between the cervical collar and your neck? i'm thinking maybe an old t-shirt, cut to strips.herefishy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 4:58 pmOK, I have to learn to sleep on my back for my upcoming cataract surgery, and in spite of my cervical collar, I wake with little mini snores. Re: arousals
Sorry, wasn't clear about the sore neck. It's more like it keeps my neck in an uncomfortable position, so it hurts, but if that's the secret, I'll put up with it. Just wanted to make sure that was the right way. but you know, it might work to use the t-shirt for padding so it would keep the jaw more back than up. Something to think about, thanks for the reply.

Re: arousals
There is no need to have the cervical collar tight, some users have the same level of success with the DR Dakota snore stop to similar it only sits under the chin to prevent the jaw drop and is cooler and more comfortable to sleep with as there is nothin at the back of the neck but there ia a huge YMMV with this

Re: arousals
The warning is for the back or unoperated side, but have bursitis on that side, so it's back only. I slept well last night and think it was all on my back, so hope that will continue. If not, will look into the Dakota snore stop. Can't imagine why I couldn't sleep on the operated side, if I'm wearing the eye patch. Would a chin strap work?

you may want to try this, instead of a chinstrap-herefishy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 3:49 pmThe warning is for the back or unoperated side, but have bursitis on that side, so it's back only. i use this plus a foam cervical collar to keep my big yap closed.
or maybe you can use it with that dr. dakota thingy instead of the cervical collar that is giving you trouble.

Re: arousals
Think I'm getting the hang of back sleeping. The cervical collar finally did the trick for the snores and the Dr Dakota is on its way and should be even more comfortable. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: arousals
The Dr. Dakota collar is very comfortable. Suggest it for anyone who is unhappy with the cervical collar.

Re: arousals
I use the Dr. D and like it too. I wear it a little loose so it doesn’t jam my upper and lower teeth together. It basically provide a little shelf for my chin so my mouth can’t sag open. I had trouble fastening it in back and made a modification that worked. I opened the seam on the protective fabric, then tacked the resulting rectangle to the strap with a few stitches.
