CPAP IN ISRAEL
CPAP IN ISRAEL
Help! This is the first time I’ve traveled out of the country and I’m going to Israel. I use a Resmed CPAP. The brick says 100-240V and 50-60Hz. Do I need a converter?

Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
Just a simple plug converter is required no transformer

Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
The voltage is not a problem. You only need a type H plug adapter - https://www.amazon.com/OREI-Grounded-Un ... ef=sr_1_19
Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
I've been to Israel twice with my CPAP and twice prior to being diagnosed (total four visits). The only issue I had there was that when I shut the light to go to bed, the power in the electric socket went out. That was solved my using a different socket and the extension cord I packed. As already stated, you'll need an adapter for the type "H" plugs. Unless you're staying in a very old accomodation, you will also be able to use a universal adapter.
Also, if you're staying in a "religious" accommodation, make sure that they won't have an issue with using the CPAP on the Sabbath (Friday night / Saturday morning), or on Jewish Holy Days. Since it is life-saving medical equipment, it should be exempt from this restriction (by religious law), but make sure that's understood.
Make sure that you also have a place to charge your phone (again, you won't need converter, only an adapter).

Tammi,
If you could, when you get back from your trip please let us know about your CPAP experience, and any tips and tricks you may have for advice. This always helps others who may have similar concerns.
Thanks in advance! Enjoy your trip!

Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
The non-ground pins of the Israeli plug are identical to the EU plug. As the original plug is not grounded the simpler US to EU Plug will work just the same. These adapters are much cheaper and will also work across Europe.

Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
This is true for the most part. The exception is that some older installations have flat slanty pins (not compatible with the Australia, New Zealand, Argentina type). The older slanty pins will also fit into newer installations.
Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
The three-pin round H adapter pictured above will not fit the "slanted" either.
I doubt this would present a real problem as
1) The standard was formally changed to round pins 30 years ago
2) All electronics appliances sold in Israel for the the last two (maybe three) decades came with round pins EU plug only
3) While CPAPs are not common, cell phone chargers with EU plug only are very common, this issue was already solved

Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
Most electric sockets in Israel are like the one below. They can accommodate the current standard (round pins, compatible with the ungrounded European plugs) and also the older slanty pins.
Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
Now there is an interesting discussion on that link! From an explanation of Orthodox Jews not being able to turn on something that could create a spark on the Sabbath - to leaving the CPAP machine running the entire time to avoid needing to turn it on - to a suggestion of putting the mask on a manequin so the CPAP machine wouldn't turn off automatically - and that being a real possibility because his wife keeps wigs on a manequin head. Very complicated!freetimecreations wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 11:05 amHere is a link from Apnea Board about Cpap machine on Shabbos. http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... eat?page=2
May I just add that I mean no disrespect, I'd like to learn about Orthodox Judaism since I realize that I know nothing about it.

Note that Jewish religious laws almost always allow an exception for danger to life or limb. This even includes abortions (normally prohibited) when the mother's life or health are endangered.
Re: CPAP IN ISRAEL
For the ultra orthodox BMC makes an especially-modified RESmart Auto CPAP device with "Shabbat mode" that makes the CPAP run in fixed pressure only, turns off the display and does not record data. Essentially makeing the CPAP behave like old non-digital CPAPs. To be ultra safe, one also installs a "sealing adapter" that actually seals all the CPAP sensors.
