Trippin

Post by Sleeplesswonder » Fri Jul 19, 2019 8:48 am

Hello from a newbie. Last night was first night with Dream Station Pro Machine and it was surreal. In March I had surgery to repair two holes in base of skull from which spinal fluid was leaking. No more leaks but still have tenacious headaches so neurologist ordered an at home sleep apnea test which shows I do stop breathing during sleep thus the cpap. We are looking at how much is obstructed apenea and how much could be related to neurological problems. Sooooo my mask was fine last night but everything else was like a trip on some pretty good stuff  Has anyone else experienced an almost out of body sensation when first using the cpap. The air pressure felt fine, the mask fit great but I felt like I was floating and having hallucinations which I think were just very vivid dreams. Before my surgery and since I do go to bed with a headache that does calm down if I lie with my head on its side and that helped last night but still all in all it was a miserable night. I am not giving up, just wondered if anyone else had this happen. Thanks

After enduring hypoxia, ENOUGH oxygen can feel pretty surreal.
Welcome to the fun house.

Thanks Chunky Frog, I wondered if that could have been it, that I was just overdosing on oxygen!

I heard of a kid, had to have a Stainless Steel HH tank made for his XPAP. He was using it as a Bong, and the plastic one kept melting. Jim

It is highly inadvisable to put anything but water in the HH chamber.
This includes vape juice, hootch, and essential oils.
Just saying.

I only use half a cap-just enough to slay the mold and smell nice.

I never felt that way but perhaps it’s a sign that you’re getting healthy again .

I"m not too surprised if someone feels high (or awful) when first starting CPAP. Your brain and body adapt to being strangled all night long and release hormones and adjust your chemistry. Sometimes you're out of whack until you adapt to normal breathing again.

Don't get too complacent that you're just getting an oxygen high, though. Is there any chance you might have something like air leaking into your spinal fluid or other places it shouldn't be? Or some other problem related to your previous medical problems?

If it's too intense, cut down on how long you use it for a night or two. Realize that you probably need to use it 4 hours a night or more for something like 22 nights in the month if you want insurance to pay for it.

Thank you for the helpful replies everyone. I have not experienced anymore trippin since that first night and am feeling some benefits of therapy--more energy and physical stamina primarily. Archangel's advice is a good reminder that I do have some atypical things going on in my head 😄 during my surgery my right eardrum was detached so that side of head could be flapped open and while everything has been sewn back up I did experience just a second of worry when the mask suctioned onto my face the first time and I felt a pull on that eardrum but seems to be holding 😅. Thanks again
