At home sleep study ahi 2.5

Post by Glass14 » Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:29 pm

Hi, I had an at home sleep study done a couple of months ago. The doctor said I didn't have sleep apnea and my airway narrowed slightly a couple of times throughout the night. Apparently my ahi was 2.5. How accurate is this number when done with an at home study? I know with sleepyhead there can be false flags. Could the same be true with my at home study or am I for sure waking up 2.5 times each hour?

Hello, Glass 14! Th best way to get a good answer to your questions is to scan and post your sleep study report. Ideally this will be the full report, not just a summary. Be sure to black out identifying personal information.

You didn't necessarily wake up 2.5 times an hour...You stopped breathing (had a airway blockage) for 10+ seconds 2.5 times an hour. The home study has nothing to do with sleepyhead.

*on average*.

However, false negatives happen all the time with sleep tests.

Yes I know the test and program sleepyhead are two different things. I was just seeing if the at home test could give false positives like sleepyhead does

With an ahi at 2.5, do insurance companies not consider this high enough for an in lab study?

What symptoms caused you to have a sleep study?

There's no way to definitively state something like that for "insurance companies" in toto, but generally, they do not.

I wake up frequently throughout the night and have to urinate. I used to wake up out of breath but this doesn't happen anymore. This breathlessness may have been related to something else

Hi, this is the results of my at home sleep study. As I said before, I'm not sure if these events are considered real or false positives. I'm having another home sleep study done soon to see how that goes and then they said I could do a lab sleep study after that. These pictures are the best I can do right now. Can you guys give me feedback on them on what you think, if it seems like I have an issue with sleep disordered breathing or not?

What did your home study consist of in terms of data channels? Some are more comprehensive than other.
The more comprehensive the study the more reliable the results.

With an AHI of 2.5 on a comprehensive sleep study....I doubt that the problem is sleep disordered breathing.

I'm not sure what kind of test it was brand wise, this was a little while ago. It had a piece you put on your finger and a couple of sensors for my chest
